Another awesome book by Michael Chrichton
Advantages: Once you have got to the good bit - it is REALY GOOD... Disadvantages: ... But it takes quite a while to get to this realy good bit.
This is a great book however it takes a while to start off and very confusing at times with some complicated reasonings and terminoligy. However if you can overlook that what is left is a very exciting and gripping book. A must read along with the rest of the Michael Chricton books. This book is somewhat unrealistic however don't let this put you off as it adds to the excitement of the book. However this is quite a long book and can get rather tiring ... ...buy this book as it would be highly inappropriate for a child to read.
And one word of advise if you have seen the film of this book i do not advise purchasing it as it does ruin the whole book, but if you haven't seen the film i would definitely buy/read this book (and watch the film after - because its pretty good) ...

More whales!
Advantages: Pretty good plot. Quite exciting. Disadvantages: Takes a while to get going, and James Doohan isn't Scottish! I feel cheated!
This is actually a review of the audio version of this novel, a 3 CD set available from Simon and Shuster audio (ISBN: 067101093X). It's read by James Doohan (Scotty in the show).
The story follows on from the slightly ridiculous film in which they travel back in time in order to save two whales. The probe which had been threatening the planet has now wondered off elsewhere - but the Federation have more important things to worry about. The Romulan ... ...talks between them and the federation. Kirk and his crew set off for a neutral planet, unware of the story which is about to unfold. Kirk and his crew need to keep their wits about them if they're to calm this rather nasty situation...
James Doohan gives a good reading, though his impersonations of the principal characters leave a little to be desired. Still, it's an entertaining enough story - a few moments of flowery-language and other such silliness, ...

A Different Style of SF
Advantages: Original Disadvantages: Lacks action if that's what you're after
This is one of those SF books that has what might, at first, be seen as an unusual and possible dull storyline. We have an Alien Art Historian hired to trace pictures painted of what seems to be the same woman at various times throughout history. This, however, is a thoroughly engrossing book from an author who has not let me down as yet. I have read a number of his books and all of them so far have been worth recommending. Having an alien main character ...

To boldly go or in this case not so boldly!
Advantages: Background character Knowledge Disadvantages: Not as fast a pace as I like.
...books I’ve read in the star trek series and takes a while to get going but all in all is a pretty good read.
The best book I have ever read is Star Trek:Imzadi. I have written an opinion on this book. If you’re interested check it out. But it is the best book ever. ...

Closer to Heaven
Advantages: Great character building Disadvantages: A little slow paced for my taste
Fantasy and science fiction are genres that mesh well together. Some authors have written successfully across both genres, but not usually in the same story. Jaine Fenn has managed to combine both in one book and it's an interesting read. One night, a stranger is found lying unconscious in a bog just outside the village of Dangwern. He appears to have come from nowhere and, apart from a strange piece of cloth lying near his naked body, there is nothing ... ...Unfortunately, this includes the stranger himself, as he is suffering from amnesia and has no idea even where he is, much less how he came to be there. Fortunately for Sais, as he is nicknamed, the boy who finds him is "sky touched". This means he is soon to travel to the City of Lights to be tested to see if he is worthy of being a consort of the goddesses. The village elders permit Sais and the boy's mother Kerin to accompany him to see if anyone ...
