An official Star Wars novel
Advantages: Cheap to buy. Drawing of Ewan McGregor on the front! Disadvantages: Difficult to read in places, needs prior "Star Wars" knowledge
...Steven Barnes is an official Star Wars novel. It originally came out on hardback in June 2004. I was given a copy of this last year but it came out in paperback in June 2005 and a brand new copy costs about £6 on Amazon. Second-hand copies are also available.
I found this rather long book very difficult to read but here is my interpretation of it.
The action in the story takes place between "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones" and "Episode ... ...Kenobi and Jedi master Kit Fisto.
The basic plot is that Obi-Wan Kenobi and Kit Fisto lead a team of clone troopers to a difficult situation brewing on the manufacturing world of Ord Cestus. They have gone there because they have found that a new Jedi-killing droid is on the market and is produced on Cestus. The Confederacy - also known as Separatists - has shown a definite interest in buying these weapons. In other words, the Confederacy could ...

London as you never see it.
Advantages: Dark entertaining read Disadvantages: its not everybodys favourite
...it, these days. Which says something very disturbing about human nature and appetites, if you think about it. Not to mention inhuman appetites. The Nightside has always been a very cosmopolitan kind of place."
What you have here is a very dark kind of fantasy book. You may not find any friendly Elves. Just darkness and a rather wry humour.
This is the heart of London that you always knew was there but do not want to go to. Or if you did, could ... ...detective story written from the perspective of the main character, John Taylor. You will walk with him through the streets and clubs. You will be familiar with his thoughts and actions, rather like some types of video games.
The story moves right along at a good page turning rate. The story is divided up into chapters each with a short heading that may give some clue to the coming content.
The characters are well drawn out. Taylor himself is somewhat ...

Closer to Heaven
Advantages: Great character building Disadvantages: A little slow paced for my taste
Fantasy and science fiction are genres that mesh well together. Some authors have written successfully across both genres, but not usually in the same story. Jaine Fenn has managed to combine both in one book and it's an interesting read. One night, a stranger is found lying unconscious in a bog just outside the village of Dangwern. He appears to have come from nowhere and, apart from a strange piece of cloth lying near his naked body, there is nothing ... ...Unfortunately, this includes the stranger himself, as he is suffering from amnesia and has no idea even where he is, much less how he came to be there. Fortunately for Sais, as he is nicknamed, the boy who finds him is "sky touched". This means he is soon to travel to the City of Lights to be tested to see if he is worthy of being a consort of the goddesses. The village elders permit Sais and the boy's mother Kerin to accompany him to see if anyone ...

It is not just about football!
Advantages: It's very funny, and oh so true! Disadvantages: None
The Disc, for those who don't know, continues to float in space, supported by the elephants who ride the back of the great swimming turtle A'tuin. The Hub about which the planet spins is a centre of great magic, and best avoided if you want to live a happy and contented life. At the outer perimeter is the great circle sea which unendingly streams over the rim into the void, which is best avoided if you want to continue to live at all. Most Discians ... ...Smeems, for instance, is the Candle Nave at the Unseen University. He has to worry about keeping the candles not just alight, but properly melted, artistically, gothicly, dribbled, as it were. Of course, there's Trevor to help. And there's Nutt. With two t's. Trevor Likely has a tendency to skive off work whenever possible, and to kick a tin can around. His dad was a legend. Nutt is… well, no-one's quite sure what Nutt is, even him. Goblin isn't ...
