CHISWICK HONDA - incompetent, unreliable
Advantages: none Disadvantages: poor customer service, no one available to talk to on the telephone, unreliable
Very unreliable company - very poor communication - I was told that nobody would be available to see me on the day I was supposed to pick up my motorcycle. After explaining my situation, I got a call back saying my bike wasn't actually ready for collection - and they were not sure when it would be ready. After agreeing with me that this was absolutely unacceptable and cancelling my agreement, they then proceeded to take a sum of money from my bank ...

For the first-timer who wants a bit more
Advantages: Smooth ride, easy handling, zippy little bike Disadvantages: Watch out for exhaust baffle failure and take care popping the seat
I owned a Honda Dylan from new for two years, finally selling it after I outgrew it.
What you get
Automatic twist-and-go scooter with 125 cc engine, Honda 3 year warranty, including 2 years free HondaCare breakdown cover (which I needed, more on that later), set of tools, excellent manual, free first service, a useful bike safety DVD (A Street, A Track, An Open Road).
Why buy new
These scooters don't depreciate that much and are in great ... ...to Oxford.
The Good
Honda build quality, great paintwork, ultra-reliable electric start, generous underseat storage, comfortable seat, stable ride, smooth engine, good acceleration from standing, bright, always-on headlamps, wing-mirrors almost useful (rare on a small scooter).
The not so good
- There seems to be an issue with some models (hopefully now fixed) with the exhaust baffles failing. Mine collapsed during a commute, blocking ...

Honda SH50 City Express 1989 model review
Advantages: Cheap, practical, hard-wearing Disadvantages: Looks/style, performance (its a moped)
The Honda SH50 City Express is a good first moped or to use as cheap city transport. Today they are cheap to purchase (can be had in reasonable condition for under £200) economical and reliable. Where the Honda scores well in practical categories it is not the most desirable machine. Its styling is dated, the handling is hardly sporty and the performance is somewhat dire. It is worth noting that the bike never needed to be restricted to 30mph as ... ...who make a sports exhaust system which should improve performance noticibly. One thing to check is that the exhaust and the exhaust port are not clogged with carbon deposits. This seriously limits performance and can be simply sorted. Other than this the bike requires minimal maintenence other than washing and keeping topped up with 2-stroke oil. My machine fairs well to being used well in bad weather conditions. The fairing provides some weather ...

Thumbs up from me
Advantages: Cheap to run, reliable, good looking Disadvantages: Not the cheapest 125 cc to buy new, hard to find second hand
...have had a second hand Honda Dylan for over four months and frankly I'm impressed. It's cheaper to run, petrolwise than my 50cc was. It's comfortable and easy to ride and can be ridden with only a CBT as it is 125cc. Cost - brand new it costs around £2000, which includes a three year warranty. I found a three year old second hand bike with nearly 100,000 miles on the clock for £1200. In my experience, it's a popular bike and second hand bikes quickly ... ...hype, but the dealership chap I spoke to said that most people who sell theirs only do so to buy a brand new one! Running costs - I can manage about 100 miles of city driving (ie lots of congestion etc) on a tankful which sets me back about a fiver. I haven't had a service yet, but the quote is around £100 depending on what needs to be replaced. Maintainance - so far this hasn't been an issue for me. The brake fluid and oil levels are clearly visible ...
