    Unlike England, civil registration did not begin in Scotland until 1855 and prior to that Old Parish Registers were kept for births, marriages and deaths. Scotland's People is a website aimed at people researching their family tree who have Scottish Ancestors or have had a birth/marriage or death registered in Scotland. The site itself is a "partnership between General Register Office for Scotland, the National Archives of Scotland and the Court of the Lord Lyon enabled by Scotland Online".     Anyone researching their family history will know how overwhelming the available sources of information can be and most of them have a fee for their use. Genealogy can be so costly! So which of the sources should you use? If you have Scottish ancestors, I would recommend a visit online to scotlands.people.gov.uk. The website holds a wealth of information about Scottish ancestry with almost 50 million records to access as well as tips to researching online and in person.     three times I have tried to buy credits, using my credit card, but after waitting ten minutes each time I gave up. try again tomorrow during working hours.
