...return. With British Gas or Scottish Gas whatever they want to be called like, I have been so much messed around that I decided they needed to be reminded to treat customers as individuals and not just like another number to add to their client list. And it is also a very good way for me to get rid of all that accumulated frustration through those long weeks. I would have never thought to encounter problems with B. Gas as I used them in the past ... ...was the price really so far anyway…
>>>>>>>>>>To start with I have to say we recently moved into our new home (well about 10 weeks ago) as I wrote it in my profile.
When you are about to move you have to make sure you know the supplier of the new property so that you can make the transfer. I phoned 10 days before the move the gas and electricity company suppliers of the new property in order to get us connected.
The answer was very short: ...

Advantages: The whole company isn't bad. The gas engineers (once they get here) seem to know their stuff. Disadvantages: Dangerously slow. The official story seems to change.
...reactions one might expect a Scottish Gas to put into place given the chances of a gas leak in a very busy part of the city.
Scottish Gas took most of the morning to turn up. When they arrived they shut the gas system off (we had been told to leave it on, we’d been told in “Don’t Touch Anything!” sort of way you might expect) and I overheard a number of their engineers shaking their heads and muttering about the state of our piping. However, when ... ...is, if you believed the Scottish Gas person on the other end of the phone. Later that day, long after the kindly lawyers had put the coffee machine on Free Vend upstairs, the mechanics from Scottish Gas arrived. They pressed a button, nothing more, nothing less, and the heating turned back on. The mysterious shut down was nothing to do with the problem the week before. As for the smell of gas… what smell of gas? By the time the engineers had arrived ...

Advantages: You do get gas Disadvantages: badly managed company, some rude customer service staff etc.
Our original suppliers were Scottish Gas - here is our story of why we went somewhere else......
We converted a shop into our house, but the bills kept coming addressed to 'the shop'. This took 4 or 5 phone calls to correct.
Then the bills came addressed to sombody else. I phoned about 8 times to inform Scottish Gas that I did not know the person the bills came addressed to, on each phone call I gave the correct information and was assured that ... ...received a letter stating that Scottish Gas were coming with the police to break down the door to disconnect the supply.
I phoned again and explained again the correct details, I managed to call off the planned actions only to get another letter a week later. The only bill that has been correct is the final one when we changed suppliers. ...

Advantages: None that I have found Disadvantages: Incompetence, long delays when telephoning, automated systems poor or do not work
After moving house we found Scottish Gas were the supplier. No correspondence arrived for 3 months then an estimated bill for £175.77. I Phoned through the correct meter reading via their automated system. I then recieved a "red" bill for the £175.77. I then phoned an agent who took details and said I would receive the correct bill. What I received was a disconnection, "pay or else" letter. I phoned again and after a 35 minute wait spoke to an agent, ...

Advantages: Saves you money! Disadvantages: May not be for you if your net connection is dodgy!
...As a few of you will know, my part time job (in between University lectures!) is a telecommunications post…or, to me and you, one of those people who calls up when you’re either on the loo, having your tea or on your way out! However, I am not a sales caller, i.e. I don’t call anybody up trying to sell them anything. I work for a company who is employed by British Gas on a campaign called ‘BG Online’.
~~~~~ My task~~~~~
My task, set by my company is to make existing British/ScottishGas customers aware of the new free service www.house.co.uk. If you are a British gas customer you will have/or will soon receive more information on this service, but my job is to see if customers would like me to register them.
~~~~~What exactly is house.co.uk?~~~~~
House.co.uk is a new free service that British/ScottishGas are providing which...

Advantages: Thier phone number is easy to find Disadvantages: Customer service, sales tactics, misleading customers
...Before you think about signing up to British Gas as an energy supplier, read this!! I was a British/ScottishGas customer for around 15 years without any problems whatsoever; one day in May 2003 I contacted them to ask advice about moving house & what I needed to do.
They asked me for my new address & informed me that the house that I was moving to was at present a dual fuel customer to them & that I would need to carry this on for at least six months. I questioned why I should inherit something I didn't want as the current arrangement is between British/ScottishGas & the current owner. I was then informed that due to new government legislation I would have no option. I wasn't happy with this as I currently used them for my gas supply & Scottish & Southern for my electric supply & didn't want to change it. However I noted down...

Advantages: cheaper monthly payments than most suppliers, helpful call centre Disadvantages: no branches
...I moved over to these guys when I bought my flat last year as I was not happy with ScottishGas demanding £200 from me as I was a 'credit risk'. Funny how I'd just got a mortgage....... It took a while to make the switch, the gas first and then the electricity but it was done by simply filling out a couple of forms, getting a meter reading done and hey presto!
The bills are pretty reasonable although I'm paying by direct debit for both each month, and then after six months they will do a review to see whether or not you're being overcharged. I even managed to get them to take the price down of the gas charges as they were going to charge me more than ScottishGas originally. The supervisor simply dropped the price by a couple of quid over the phone for my monthly bill.
The staff have always been helpful and friendly when I...
