The 7200.10 hard disk drives from Seagate are the first to use new Perpendicular Technology for recording data. This makes them, in theory, faster than other hard disk drives. This is because the drive head has less far to move in order to record/retrieve the same amount of data. I have recently purchased the 320GB ATA100 version and I do notice slightly higher speeds compared to my previous Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 80GB drive.
Official reviews claim that the seek noise is higher with the 7200.10 than 7200.9, and higher than the majority of other leading drives. However, I cannot personally hear it seek at all, even when the drive is very busy. I do have a well insulated case but I am still able to hear the internal fans and another older hard disk I have. The reviews I've seen give very favourable figures for the spinning noise, which I totally agree with as I can barely hear it spinning at all.
Costs of hard drives have come down a lot recently and drives of up to around 320GB are relatively cheap. If you go up more more than that, you'll have to start paying a fair bit more cash. So if money isn't very plentiful but you want as much space as possible, I'd recommend either a 250GB or 320GB drive.
Seagate are well known for longevity, and the Barracuda drives come with a 5 year Warranty compared with 3 years for other major makes.
The only minor problem I had is when attempting to clone my old disk to the new one. The software Seagate provide for downloading is called MigrateEasy version 7, by Acronis. If you have just one partition then it's fine and easy to use, but if you want to set your own partition sizes, it won't let you so is no good unless you happen to want to use the sizes the software suggests. I ended up using XXClone instead (free). Apart from this issue, installation was easy. However, it's fair to say that any hard drive is going to be easy to install if you know what you're doing, and the Barracuda is no different in that respect.
If you like having new technology that works well, and particularly if you don't want to hear the disk constantly making noise, I can certainly recommend this drive.
Advantages: Fast, many models available, 5 year warranty, NCQ, 16MB buffer, perpendicular recording Disadvantages: None as I'm aware
...fashion.
Seagate also provides a 5 year warranty whereas the competition doesn't. Seagate support is very good, they replaced one with a snapped SATA connector (physical damage) even though they claim do not replace units with mechanical damage. Overall you can't go wrong with this drive. ...

i bought seagate barracuda 320 GB because it capacity. it is huge right?
bad side -> when i open directory file with so many directories inside, it read files slowly (damnit).
if i were you, i prefer the smaller capacity than it*.
*note: of course you must compare with others barracuda product like barracuda 160 GB ATA.
conclusion:
You prefer to save lot of files? try it.
You prefer to read quicker? read other reviews about this product.

Advantages: Fast, Value for Money, Quiet, 5yr warranty Disadvantages: none that i know
...to transfer data between pc's without using a network, or for backup storage on many pc's. Also with external hard drives from seagate you only get a 1yr warranty, instead of 5yrs for internal drives like this one.
The formatted usable size is 298gb, not 320gb, it is very quiet I do not notice it at all. It is lightning fast thanks to its 16mb cache which helps make windows and programs load up quicker.
The downside with the low price I paid was that as it was OEM (original equipment manufacturer) hard drive, this means that it is for computer manufactures and the hard drive is the only item incuded, so there is no instruction manual, or the sata cable to connect your hard drive to the motherboard. I had to buy the cable seperatly, but this was only a couple of quid. However nnon OEM drives come with the cable included.
Although no...

Advantages: Fast except multithread read, good capacity, stable, 5 years warranty Disadvantages: Weak at multithread/multiple reads, a little noisy
...I've used a similar model for a long time and I have mixed opinions about 7200.10 hard drives.
The good things of SeagateBarracuda7200.10Seagate hdd are the most stables drives in the market, I've used my drive for quite a time and never experienced a single problem.
Large capacity, 320GB is more than enough (300 Gb real)
Good speed, especially at writing data, but also at reading excepting multiple file copy. Speed is about 75-80 Mb at large files
The access time is about 13-14ms (about the same as other hdd)
Temperature IS OK.
Very stable and reliable
The not so good things:
Multitasking read performance. While on single thread the performance is high, 75 Mb, while increasing the threads, many aplications used the speed drops at about 5-10 Mb
A little noisy especially when many aplications are used
Conclusion...
