Advantages: Reliable and high capacity Disadvantages: Not exceptionally quick for high performance computers
...When I first built my PC this was the hard drive that I used for everything. It is a very reliable hard drive and is an excellent buy for people who need that extra capacity. The only bad point that I can think of about this hard drive is that it is 7200rpm as apposed to the raptor drive I use as my system drive. This lesser speed means that things such as disk defragmenters, installations and boot can be slower if you are used to a high performance drive however for anyone who just needs capacity this is the drive for you. In conclusion this is an excellent product for capacity however if you are the type (like me) who wants to run high performance games with highest settings then this is not the drive you need as your system volume....

Advantages: Fast 7200rpm, Quiet and very well priced with a 5 year warranty. Disadvantages: None
...My Hard drive crashed and died a few weeks back so I decided to go for a larger HDD than I had before.
I decided to go for the Seagate ST3160023A Barracuda.
The main reasons for going for this model are it have a spin speed of 7200 and an 8 mb Cache and for a HDD to be as quiet as this one is has to be heard to be believed.
The HDD is 160GB and you would have thought that it would have been expensive but I paid £55.00 from Savastore.com but it is available from many online stores inc ebuyer and Misco for aroung the £55.00 mark.
But probably the most important reason was that the HDD comes with a 5 year warranty ( thats right 5 years, it is not a typing error ) so if it does fail then you are covered with a new drive on a send and return basis.
I do thoroughly recommen buying one of these drives if yours fails....

Advantages: Cheap and fast spindle speed Disadvantages: More space
...So you have SATA and need a drive? This drive maybe for you, especially if you are looking at RAID in the future. These drives are now below £40 so three or four in RAID will give you the speed of a WD Raptor for less than the price of one!! The SATA gives you 150MB/S whereas normal Parallel ATA is way below that, also you will be able to feel the difference as the computer runs a lot faster as you have reduced one of the serious sub-system bottlenecks. It is fairly quiet and runs at 7200RPM spindle speed. However if you are looking for space and not speed I would suggest a 200GB or 300GB.
Not great for space, but possibly the best bang-for-buck if you are looking at RAID or speed.

I recently bought this drive for a new PC, and it's been the perfect drive. It's very quick i.e. excellent seek time, Good average transfer rate and great burst rate. This drive is very quiet, I hardly hear its sound when it is in operation. It's quite... more
