Manufacturer's product description
The Cheetah 15K.4 enterprise disc drive offers an unprecedented blend of high performance and cost effectiveness. Seagate has dramatically improved Cheetah speed by delivering seek times as fast as 3.3 msec, latencies as low as 2 msec and an increase in data rates of up to 30 percent over the previous generation. This enables the Cheetah 15K.4 to meet throughput requirements under highly demanding conditions with fewer drives, significantly lowering TCO. And the Cheetah 15K.4 achieves these performance gains while maintaining the same power, shock and acoustic characteristics of its 15K.3 predecessor.

Advantages: The Best on the Market Disadvantages: None
...I must say that I would never use anything other than a Seagate Hard Drive in any of my computers. I have never had a problem with them. They have never frozen, crashed, caused errors or any other major catastrophe.
Seagate make very reliable, easy to install hard drives at extemely affordable prices. I have tried others but at the end of the day, because the computers that I build have to be top notch, I will always plump for a Seagate. It doesn't matter what size it is their hard drives always perform to peak capacity and are compatible with any other component that I use.
You may think that I'm beginning to sound like a salesman but I think that, if you find something worth having, you should definately let others know about it.
Prices for the Seagate range from £32.95 for the 20GB U series x 20 to £360.99 for the 146.8GB...

Advantages: Speed, 5 year warrenty Disadvantages: Low capacity considering price
...This hard disk drive is designed to be used in a high-end server solutions where both speed and reliability are paramount.
The largest bottleneck in any computer system is the hard disk drive. And as solid state technology is out of the price range of most PC enthusiasts, the next best thing (after adding more RAM) is to upgrade the hard disk drive.
The Seagate15,000 RPM Cheetah is currently the fastest hard disk drive on the market. This drive is seriously fast and very reliable, hence the 5 year warranty from Seagate. I can vouch for this warranty from experience. Unless the drive has been physically abused, Seagate will replace it.
The only downside to purchasing this hard disk drive is that you will need to purchase a SCSI controller card and cable in order for your new drive to get friendly with your current system...

Advantages: Standard Disadvantages: Extremely unreliable, warranty is only one year
...One of the most unreliable and fault ridden disks I've ever seen. I purchased a batch of similarly sized Maxtors, Hitachis, Seagates and Western Digital drives around 3 years ago. I had about 15 Maxtors, of which I now have 7 remaining. In comparison, I've only lost 1 Hitachi and 2 Seagates. I'd say that pretty much speaks for itself.
To top it off, whilst the Seagates came with 3 year return to base warranties, the Maxtors have about a 1 year. I wouldn't say that's a vote of confidence from the manufacturer on the product's reliability. Though, 1 year warranty on hard disks does seem to be becoming industry standard.
For disk purchases I would highly recommend Western Digital or Seagate. I still have 4GB WD Caviars that are still up and running!...
