Manufacturer's product description
Seagate continues its lead in Enterprise Storage. Seagate's fourth generation of Cheetah products include Cheetah 18XL, Cheetah 36LP and the remarkable Cheetah 73. This family of 10, 000-RPM drives supports capacities from 9.2 to 73.4 Gbytes in a 3.5-inch form-factor for mainstream and high-performance users. Interface options include, Ultra160 SCSI and the new 2Gbit/sec Fibre Channel. Seagate has increased the Cheetah performance by 45 percent over the previous generation.
Advantages: Speed, 5 year warrenty Disadvantages: Low capacity considering price
...This hard disk drive is designed to be used in a high-end server solutions where both speed and reliability are paramount.
The largest bottleneck in any computer system is the hard disk drive. And as solid state technology is out of the price range of most PC enthusiasts, the next best thing (after adding more RAM) is to upgrade the hard disk drive.
The Seagate 15,000 RPM Cheetah is currently the fastest hard disk drive on the market. This drive is seriously fast and very reliable, hence the 5 year warranty from Seagate. I can vouch for this warranty from experience. Unless the drive has been physically abused, Seagate will replace it.
The only downside to purchasing this hard disk drive is that you will need to purchase a SCSI controller card and cable in order for your new drive to get friendly with your current system...

None Better Review ofSeagate Hard drive 17.2 GBby

Advantages: The Best on the Market Disadvantages: None
...Cheetah. The nicest mid range is the Barracuda which is priced at £34.99 for a 40GB or £38.98 for 80GB. Of course they do get bigger but then so does the price.
If you are in need of a new hard drive I would say without even thinking about it go for a Seagate. It will outlive the life of your computer easily....

Advantages: Standard Disadvantages: Extremely unreliable, warranty is only one year
...One of the most unreliable and fault ridden disks I've ever seen. I purchased a batch of similarly sized Maxtors, Hitachis, Seagates and Western Digital drives around 3 years ago. I had about 15 Maxtors, of which I now have 7 remaining. In comparison, I've only lost 1 Hitachi and 2 Seagates. I'd say that pretty much speaks for itself.
To top it off, whilst the Seagates came with 3 year return to base warranties, the Maxtors have about a 1 year. I wouldn't say that's a vote of confidence from the manufacturer on the product's reliability. Though, 1 year warranty on hard disks does seem to be becoming industry standard.
For disk purchases I would highly recommend Western Digital or Seagate. I still have 4 GB WD Caviars that are still up and running!...
