I have driven the 'S' model of this car for over 3 months now, and I cannot fault it in any shape or form. The fact that it is a diesel engine should not put anybody off. It out classes any petrol equivalent car when it comes to miles per gallon. I currently spend £42.00 to fill up the tank and this will produce around 550 miles plus. How many petrol cars can produce 45 - 50+ MPG!!
The performance is superb. You'll not win many races off the lights (if your that way inclined) but be assured at mid range (40 - 60 mph) this car will safely take you through an overtake with plenty of power behind the pedal. The engine is infact a Volkswagen 1.9TDi and the gear box is straight out of an Audi. You have to admit it doesn't get much better than that!
Under the bonnet everything is neat and easy to find. Even my partner (not being sexist) is well able to check the oil and top up the water. There are however large amounts of plastic covers, hiding all the equipment your not supposed to touch. This leads to problems if you take the car to a non SEAT garage, especially if they have never worked on one before.
The interior controls on the console are all within easy reach of the driver. The dials are lit all the time, so when you drive through a tunnel or through a heavily shaded road, you'll suddenly see you dash board light up a sharp reddy/orange. This is a great feature, allowing you to always see what is going on. The steering is superbly responsive, it always feel in your control. However push it on a bit and you'll agree this car can hold up a lot of aggressive driving. The cornering ability of the car is brilliant.
Now I'm not a great passenger, but having a partner who is a named driver and willing to pilot you when you have been out at a function isn't a bad thing. Having sat in the passenger seat a few times (not that many) the car shows itself up for the value for money it really is. The seats, although not bucket seats, hold you nicely and have a comfortable feeling of support. The dashboard is straight out of an Audi A3, so the style and finish are excellent. The foot space is great, and the added seat height adjuster lets most people find a comfortable position.
The pros of this car far out way the cons, but I must try to explain everything. The functions within the car are quite sparse. One of the major disappointments is the wing mirrors, most modern cars now have electric ones fitted as standard, but unfortunately with the Leon you have to make that terrible urggh noise as you lean across to the passenger side of the car (while wearing a seat belt) and adjust the mirror. As many of you are aware this will take at least several urggh's. The rest of the controls in the front are relatively standard, with the bonus of recirculating the air inside if you suffer from asthma or hay fever. The back of the car however is a good size but again lacks in all forms of passenger convenience. The only real features are a pocket on the back of the front passenger seat and a centre ash tray, stop me if I'm boring you!!
In conclusion this car screams value for money and a superb package to boot.
Advantages: Outstanding Torque, Performance, Economy, Sporty (FR model) Disadvantages: Not as solid as Audi
...Overview
=======
The Seat Leon FR looks quite sporty, fr badges, lowered suspension (very very hard btw) sprts bumpers especially at the rear. Firmer seats but really you are buying an engine. Nice 17" alloy wheels though they are not as good as the 18" Cupra alloys (Petrol cupra - note the new FR's come with these alloys!! excellent move by seat). The turbo on this car is great with a very loud whistle which you hear even inside car with windows ... ...The car has so much torque it is scary. This car wheels-spins in 2nd and 3rd in a straight line and not just on corners. 2nd gear is a joy. You can come off a slip road and be at 60mph in a shot. 40-80mph is absurdly quick too. Economy
=======
Fuel economy is important. My audi a3 new was bleeding me dry (24mpg avg with 240miles for full tank). My FR averages 30-50 mpg which his great given my style of driving. 400-500 for a tank. I've managed ...

Advantages: torquey engine, easy run Disadvantages: could be a little tighter on corners
i have owned my seat leon tdi (90) for a year now. the car is easy on diesel, easily allowing me to achieve around 600 miles on a full tank. the seat leon looks good although in electric blue scratches can become evident very easily.
in terms of power the car is lively and revs well especially when the turbo kicks in at around 1500-2000RPM meaning that during normal driving the power is on tap without having to change down a gear.
sometimes in ... ...little unforgiving but i guess that could just be my driving style!
one thing i would say is be cautious of the 60,000 mile service as this will prove costly at a dealer-timing belt, water pump and ancilleries all need changing-but essential for the cars life.
i have read a lot of complaints about doors leaking-i can see how this is a problem as the doors hold qite a bit of water therefore if seals weaken its all going into the footwell.... i simply ...

Advantages: Massive economy, handles well, good reliability, solid, great value for money. Disadvantages: Lacking a little power, some trouble with cold starts, slight problem on door seal.
Well it is a bit boring, but it's not bad compromise considering the benefits. The economy, quality and second hand price more than make up for the fact it's not exactly a race car. At about 50-60 mpg, I can hardly blame it if it isn't terrifyingly quick, though the fact it handles pretty well lets you have some fun on those narrow, twisting country roads. It's a great all-rounder with only a couple of let downs. Although I adored my previous car, ... ...the petrol station every 3 or 4 days, having only covered a couple of hundred miles, and throwing more money down the drain. It was time for a change and after many hours trawling the net, the leon seemed like an attractive option. It hasn't disappointed me and although it has less soul and character than some other cars I've had, it is impossible to dislike a car that is this economical. Performance: As I said, it's not staggeringly fast in a straight ...

Advantages: Smooth, Powerful, Economical to run, Stylish Disadvantages: Watch out for low kerbs
I bought my Leon FR 1.9 TDI 150 about 3 months ago now. I had initially gone to the showroom to look at Ibizas because they have a good reputation, but fell in love with the Leon once I'd taken it for a test drive.
I haven't driven the other models besides the FR, so can't comment on those. The FR though is one hell of a lot of car for your money. Its as powerful as just about anything else under £22,000, but a lot cheaper. The drive is smooth and ... ...control over it's excellent engine. Having said that you'll find that you probably use your gearstick less than previously, because the car has so much torque. No longer do you need to drop down a gear before overtaking, just touch the accelerator, and all the power you need is there for you in your existing gear.
The specification is another area where this car punches well above its price tag. With 4 electric windows, high quality 6 speaker CD ...

Advantages: Everything Disadvantages: It isn't a Ferrari
My Dad bought one of these befire the new model came out. So he got it cheap and with a full body kit. It has a great engine that growls like a Tiger. And it kept up and beat a Porsche Boxster getting out of some traffic lights. My Dad says that he has driven 50,000 miles with and it's still going strong and he also still gets excited when it accelerates. And it's good for a family car, my family of 5 can fit in there without it getting hot and sticky ...

Advantages: Great sustainable acceralation and looks a dreams Disadvantages: Visibility in the rear is a bit cramped.
I love this car, I bought it 18months ago and I still feel great every time I walk up to it to drive it. Since buying it I haven't had to spend any money on repairs, it's be faultless. I really like the interior of the car too, everything just feels in the right place> The adjustability of the seats and steer wheel means you can create a nice drive position too. The space in the car for it's class is brilliant, masses of space in the front, rear seating is reasonable and a excellent boot space.
The style of the car is brilliant, I still think this car looks better that the new range. Also the SE has a hidden exhaust so the rear of the car it nice a symmetrical which only had to the already great looks.
As for performance the car is brilliant, I don't care want people about diesel, driven them right this car is brilliant. Turbo ...
Advantages: Great Powerful Diesel estate Disadvantages: No rear windscreen wiper
When it came to choosing a new car we tested quite a number and nothing came close to Seat when comparing price, quality, build etc.
We chose to have a SeatLeon1.6 petrol car, but due to a delay in shipment we were given a Seat Cordoba 1.9Tdi in the meantime.
The Cordoba is a supremely powerful, comfortable diesel compact estate car. It has a massive boot which does impact on the size of the rear windscreen - in heavy traffic following car's headlight are too low to be seen. I am 5"8 and find the rear windscreen no problem at all, but my wife who is 5"2 finds her visibility a little awkward. The compensation of a massive boot is worth it as far as i am concerned though.
The seat is height adjustable and the steering wheel is adjustable forwards & back, up & down - so it is not so difficult to compensate for rear visibility ...
