Advantages: An informative, sometimes amusing, easy read Disadvantages: Really have to read all of the book to have a full understanding of the author's views
I think the title of my opinion kind of gives away what I think of this extremely informative, reassuring, down-to-earth and to the point book.
Tracey Hogg, aka 'The Baby Whisperer', has teamed up with Melinda Blau to produce an astounding insight into parent hood for 'first timers' and 'dab hands' alike. For anyone who believes that parenting means a minimum of a years sleepless nights, this book is a must. Tracey Hogg dismisses ... ...night'. Bliss!
Tracey Hogg shares simple, accessible programs throughout the read beginning with,
E.A.S.Y - how to get your baby to Eat, be Active (play), Sleep on a structured routine that will make every member of your household's life a lot easier and happier, leaving time for You!
S.L.O.W - Stop, Listen, Observe and What's up? How to interpret what your baby is trying to tell you.

For anyone who believes that parenting means a minimum of a years sleepless nights, this book is a must. Tracey Hogg dismisses this notion because, quote: 'A happy baby sleeps through the night'. Identification of your baby 'type' - Angel, Textbook, Touchy, Spirited or Grumpy. She also teaches how to best interact with each individual type.
Tracey's Three Day Magic - how to change any and all bad habits (yours and baby's alike), in just three days.
Tracey's message is simple: treat your baby as you wish to be treated yourself, with respect.
I began reading this book when my son was 8 weeks old. Ideally, it is designed to be used from the very start of a newborn's life, but I found no trouble in using the techniques as described. Tracey Hogg covers all, if not most, issues regarding parenting including a sensitively written chapter on babies with special needs, and with great humour, all the other issues new parents deal with such as no time for, or interest in sex; brestfeeding; and gaining control over parenting gone awry. Whilst explaining her methods, Tracey Hogg uses personal experience which strengthens her beliefs and makes them seem more 'doable'. For every eventuality, she has a cure. There seems no end to her wisdom. Ahe discusses how parents unwittingly contribute to bad habits and difficulties, then supplies solutions on how to correct them. She talks of the Circle of Respect between yourself and your child. The most memorable sentance for me is, 'How would you like you legs to be yanked high into the air without knowing it was going to happen? Tell your baby what you are about to do.' She makes you step into your baby's shoes, and with amazing clarity allows you to see how it is through their eyes. The main aspect of Tracey Hogg's methods is structured routine. A lot of people mistake this for strict routine, but this isn't the case. Tracey explains this theory through the E.A.S.Y technique, as aforementioned. It's not so much a routine as a plan. It's also her way of promoting understanding of your baby, listening to what they are saying, talking with, not at your child and slowing down. Respect is what babies and children need, and if your mid is open enough to digest what Tracey is saying throughout the book, then respect is what your child will get. All I know is that I have never had a sleepless night since I read this book!
This book is available from all good bookshops and from online services for approximately £9.99 per paperback copy. Hardback versions are available for around £16 but I have only seen it available in the American version. Following this book, Tracey Hogg wrote 'Secrets Of A Baby Whisperer: For Toddlers', but that's another opinion!!

Advantages: Lots of suggestions that really do work, accessible style, humerous Disadvantages: at times appeared slightly patronising to the Mums she wrote about ("luv")
I read this book among the many, many others I looked at before my baby was born. It is one of the few I actually referred back to once baby was here, and as any new parent will know, time is precious, so spending time getting to grips with this book must have been time well spent.
To begin with I was reassured to find that Tracy Hogg was a midwife with many years' experience of childcare and unlike some other experts, had children of her own. Her ... ...of parenting. I didn't like the idea of controlled crying and didn't want to impose too much of a routine on my baby. I did want to find a way of ensuring that I could get my breakfast down in the morning, maybe have a shower, and go out once in a while!
One of the most important principles espoused by Tracy Hogg is that of listening to your baby. To begin with I was frustrated by her crying and would say things like "But she can't need feeding ...

Advantages: Nice, clear, instructions Disadvantages: Seems very rigid
I bought this book just after my daughter was born because I felt like we really needed some sort of routine to guide us and I really didn't know where to begin.
The routine recommended is something called EASY which stands for Eat, Activity, Sleep and You Time. The basic premise is that the babys day runs on a 3 hour rolling routine (until 4 months when it's 4 hourly) and, as long as you ensure each part is done correctly baby will know exactly ... ...to look for visiual clues and respond to them. The book also gives really useful tips on what to do for most issues (ie if baby suddenly starts waking in the night having slept through then it's probably a growth spurt and you need to get more feed in during the day and NOT feed at night!)
Whilst I love the simplicity of this routine (it's common sense that you feed, let them play and then they go to sleep) I found that I was becoming a real clockwatcher ...

Advantages: Good common sense advice, easy + fun to read, you can tell she's a mum too! Disadvantages: difficult to find your way around the book (poor index + chapter order)
Stepping into the world of motherhood for the first time was really scary, but this book has given me the confidence to know I'm doing the right things for my little girl. It's packed with suggestions and tips which are easy to employ and make good common sense, such as the 'EASY' plan (Eat, Activity, Sleep, You time) which helps you and baby recognise what's going to happen next in the day without having a strict timetable to stick to.
There's ... ...have and what kind of approach will therefore work for them, and a table to help you understand your baby's body language, and what different cries mean.
There's a lot of humour behind the words such as when she's talking from the baby's point of view and you can tell that the author is speaking from her own experience.
This book will be your bible that you'll keep referring back to and dipping into for ideas and help time after time.
The only ...

Advantages: practical help for parents Disadvantages: none
It is well known that one of the most challenging times as a parent is when your child is a toddler. There are lots of things we need to teach, but at the same time our children are developing a fiercely independent streak wanting to do everything for themselves. Alongside that, it is hugely frustrating for a child as they struggle to communicate their wants and needs - it's no wonder that this time is known as the terrible twos!
When my eldest daughter was one, I was recommended 'Secrets of the BabyWhisperer for Toddlers'. It is written by TracyHogg who had previously published 'The Secrets of the BabyWhisperer' a book which deals with how to bring up a baby. I had not read this first book, but I definitely found this second one focusing on toddlers very useful.
I have to admit that I did not read the book from cover to cover ...
