Advantages Enviromentally friendly
Disadvantages The cat doesn't like it
As an owner of 2 pampered cats , we are always trying to find products that they like, keep them healthy and also make it easy and convenient for us to take care of them in our busy household. After trying to get the number one prority right i.e food, we move onto number two (excuse the pun) cat litter.
Cat litter has been a topic of great debate just recently as not only is it quite an important issue to get right but it also creates quite a problem when you have two lovely but very different cats. Cat litter comes in many forms froms but we were quite happy to try out Seddons premium wood based litter, when it was given to us on the recommendation of my Mother in Law.On first seeing the bag of litter, it was a huge bag containing 30 litres of small wooden shaped pellets of varying size, from 2mm up to 2 cm. The wooden pellets are great for the enviroment which is always a bonus. They are biodegradable, pine fresh, naturally deodorizing, highly absorbent, hygenic and have a low dust level. As with most litters it instucts you to spread the litter 1cm deep in the tray, and to clean and replace with fresh litter every 24 - 48 hours.
When you first open the bag the smell of pine is quite distinctive and not at all unpleasant, and you could easily imagine that it would mask odours well. The low dust element works well, but it is rather difficult trying to lift the huge bag to pour into the tray, but is manageable. There was definitely no cloud of dust which you can get with some litters and can leave you coughing and spluttering, so yet another positive point.Upon waking the following morning, we discovered one of our little furry monsters was not over keen on the new litter and expressed his disapproval on the hall carpet, which was swiftly cleaned, the other little bundle was fine with the change , but i did find that the pellets had soaked up the liquid fine but had then discintergrated to a powder form at the bottom of the tray, which was difficult to clean, so had to empty the entire contents to make the tray totally fresh . ( we have very fussy cats and they like a very clean tray at all times).
We did persevere with the new litter for a good few days but had to change to a more conventional litter as the little accidents were just to frequent . The product is extremely good value for around £6.00 you get 30 litres which will last for a long time, we had the added bonus of free delivery. It is great for the enviroment so I'd recommend giving it a try . Unfortunately it wasn't the product for us but that was purely down to our cats happiness.
