Scandal Takes a Holiday

Advantages: Humour - Falco's family life (+) excellently researched by Davis (+) gripping story
Disadvantages: Little physical and 'chases' description (-) a little too family life-related at times

Here is another book review using my 'revised' formatting. She is famous for her writings that majorly revolve around history and murder mysteries, with some undertones of romance and 'passion crime'. The majority - if not all - of Davis' work is set in a historial period, for example, Scandal Takes a Holiday is set in ancient day Rome. Her novels have won several awards, including New Bestseller and Historial Novel Priza and saw her become President of the organisation Classical Association in 1997. The oracle's prophesy is you will love Delphi

Advantages: Magnificent views, well preserved ancient city
Disadvantages: Spread over a large slopping area which can be tiring

which hosted music and drama competitions is incredibly well preserved with 35 rows of stone benches. At the highest point of the site, is the Stadium constructed in 5 BC. It is reached through an arched monumental entrance. The central track complete with starting blocks is lined with stoned benches. Do then visit the museum. The Delphi museum houses what survives of the sculptures and votives that once adorned the sanctuary of Apollo. To see Delphi without these, you would not achieve the holistic picture. The main items of interest are the marble replica of the Omphalos stone, bronze shields and statuettes, a silver archaic bull, and the Bronze Charioteer. Photographs are allowed without a flash. The site can be viewed in around three hours if only a cursory view is taken but to give it justice I would allow a full day. The site ...

Review of Delphi (Greece)

Intrigue and murder in ancient Rome and Spain

Advantages: Keeps you guessing
Disadvantages: It helps to have read the earlier books in the series.

"A Dying Light in Corduba" is Lindsey Davis' eighth novel featuring Marcus Didius Falco, Roman, informer and investigator first class. If you've never read the others I wouldn't advise starting here, its an excellent novel, but you really need to know the main characters and some of their previous intrigues to get the most from the plot. Without giving too much away... Falco is dragged into a political conspiracy after Rome's chief of spys is attacked and left for dead. One of the injured man's employees is murdered the same night and Falco is once more sent across the Empire to find the mysterious woman he believes is guilty. His common-law-wife, Helena, accompanies him, despite being heavily pregnant. Falco is thrown into a conspiracy among the olive traders which may have serious political repercussions back in Rome.
