Being Sennheisers' you are expecting some great quality head-phones, and these plugs sure won't disappoint.
The company's entry level in earheadphones feature a compact, stylist design, with sound to match.
The sound boasts a hearty, deep bass sound, with great high tones as well, that are of a high standard, without being too tinny. The main problem I have found with this type of headphone, is that the mid tones are often neglected, leaving your music very deep, and very precise in all the right places, but without much life. However, with the CX-400s I find that the mid tones have a more than necessary presence, and this definitely makes a difference to the overall sound. Obviously, you get what you pay for, and so the sound quality isn't as good as really expensive models, but if you care about sound, and are on a limited budget, these are the best that I have ever owned.
I have used them to listen to many different types of music, from Chopin to Aphex Twin, and they shined in all category's, at all volumes. Though they tend to shine through at medium to high.
As these headphones have an outer rubber part, that seals out exterior sounds, they are great for commuting, and under normal use, this feature just enhances the sound, making it richer. They come with 3 sizes of ear buds, small, medium, and large, I cannot make any promises for you, but for me, the medium ones fit snug, and I can wear them for a long time without getting uncomfortable. This is great for travelers, as you could just put them in your ears to muffle some of the sound of an engine/the road or whatever, without playing any music.
The headphones themselves, are on a short cable, and there is an extension cable included, this is great for people that want better head phones for their phone, which already has an adapter.
In terms of what you get for your money, I haven't seen anything like it!
You get the headphones, the extension cable, a cable tidy, a carry case, the different sized ear buds, and a clip, to clip them to your shirt etc...
The build quality also is excellent, all aspects of the product feel sturdy, and expensive, the cables do not get knotted as easily, and the gold plated connections feel to be of a premium standard, making them the best set of headphones of this style that I have owned!
