I had previously owned a couple of pairs of Sennheiser PX100's and was extremely pleased with their sound and the overall appeal of Sennheiser headphones. I was in my local HMV today when I decided to have a look at some of the headphones they had available and eventually chose these ones after a toss up between these and another couple of pairs of Sennheiser's.
**HD 485** ... ...doubt yet another hit from Sennheiser who in my opinion are the Kings of Headphones. If you are a serious headphone listener then you have to check these out. The sound is seriously good and you would not be that surprised if they were even twice the price.

I was in my local HMV today when I decided to have a look at some of the headphones they had available and eventually chose these ones after a toss up between these and another couple of pairs of Sennheiser's.
**HD 485**
These headphones are open designed and come with a gold headphone jack for plugging into amplifiers. They also come with a holder which means you can place your headphones on the holder to keep them where you choose. I had heard of these headphones before and thought they would be excellent headphones as I have heard a lot of good things about Sennheiser's HD range. These headphones give good comfort which sometimes can be a problem with headphones but these breeze through and you can listen to these for hours one end without any trouble. They also come with a three-meter single-sided cable which is more than enough for most listening rooms.
**Price Point**
At this price point of around £50 there are a number of competitors to these headphones which come from the likes of Sony and of course the makers of these particular headphones, Sennheiser. It depends on what design you are looking for to whether you will actually want to go out and buy these headphones as opposed to another design. These are one of the market leaders under £75 and it's easy to understand why when you actually give them a listen as I have shown below.
**Sound**
*Bass* I must start this part by telling you that music was already playing when I plugged these headphones into the headphone socket on my pc and I was blown away by the bass. It is awesome. The bass on the Goldring's is very good indeed but the bass performance of these HD485's is truly remarkable. Listen to something bass heavy and these will reproduce it superbly well with brilliant accuracy of each note. It is not just great with one type of bass either. Any bass you throw at these they will be able to handle. Just brilliant bass performance.
*Midrange* Whilst maybe not as striking as the bass performance, the mid-range is really rather good too. Vocals come across very well as do instruments like guitar and piano. The mid-range also works brilliantly with the bass performance to create an overall brilliant soundstage with just about any type of music you play through them. They are also good for spoken word listening like radio or audio books as there is great vocal detail. I have even noticed a lot more detail that was just not there on the Goldring headphones I had previously.
**Overall**
These really are an exceptionally good pair of headphones. If you prefer the design of open headphones to other designs then these deserve to be on your audition list for sure. At around £50 these are a great pair of headphones that will give you hours and hours and hours of listening pleasure. These are the best pair of headphones I have owned and they are without a doubt yet another hit from Sennheiser who in my opinion are the Kings of Headphones. If you are a serious headphone listener then you have to check these out. The sound is seriously good and you would not be that surprised if they were even twice the price.
Advantages: Light, sound great, sounds as if the sound is in the room with you Disadvantages: Bulky, long chord makes them a pain to travel with
...sound. Roll on the Sennheiser HD 485's. At around £45 it won't break the bank and are considerably better sounding than something for less. You can't imagine them being a difference but there is. You won't know until you hear it for yourself.
When I first took these out of the package I noticed that they were futuristic looking, modern and smart. I also realised that they were very light weight and had cushioning around the ears and on top of the ... ...first when you put them on you of course notice them, but after a while you forget you are wearing them. Honestly, they are one of the most comfortable headphones I have tried. The sound is really rich and full. Some headphones are spolit by providing an overpowering bass which gives you a headache, too much trebble or an inbalance between the sounds which gives you, well, a headache!
