Full review
I purchased these for use with my MP3 player, as the supplied ones sounded terrible and very muffled. They were also incorporated into some neckband which is very inconvinient.

I decided to purchase some inner-ear type headphones because they are very compact to store and easy to use as they just fit into your ears. I looked around in catalogs and various websites and reviews for earphones at manufacturers like Sony and Philips. I then found OEM version of these Sennheiser MX300 earphones on a website for £4. Sennheiser are renowned for good quality products, so I ordered straight away.

The details from the manufacturer's website state:
Impedance = 32 Ohms
1m cable length with 3.5mm stereo connector
18 - 20,000 Hz frequency response

When I received them, there was just the earphones and little foam covers in a plastic bag and bubble wrap. This keeps the cost down. I unwrapped them and plugged them into my MP3 player.

I generally listen to metal and rock music, and these earphones are excellent sounding. The treble and mid range is good, but the bass is a little lacking. Using the 'Rock' equilizer present on my MP3 player enhanced the sound and boosts the bass and treble. The quality of sound is great (especially with higher bitrate MP3s like 192kbps, although I prefer 224kbps).

The design is fairly simple black with the Sennheiser logo on one side, 'MX300' on the other side and L or R to determine the side. They are fairly discreet, which is also good. The cable length could be a bit longer, it is just slightly too short to have my MP3 player in my trouser pockets. I usually keep it in my jacket pocket anyway so this isn't too much of an issue. There is no in-line volume controller, but I don't really need one. The MX500 have one though.

The earphones are circular shaped, which is OK but do not fit as comfortably in the ears as others such as Sonys (which are shaped to fit in easier and comfortably). They are good for general use, but after an hour or so they can get a bit uncomfortable. Also, my ears are fairly small so they tend to get pulled out if I accidentally pull on the cord.

But, otherwise, for the price they are excellent earphones. Good quality sound and value. They just could be made a bit more comfortable for people with smaller ears.

Lives up to the Sennheiser name
Review of Sennheiser MX 300 by callum9999

Advantages: Great quality brand, low price
Disadvantages: Lead could be longer

Sennheiser may not be a household name but they have earnt a reputation for making high quality earphones. They are probably the best manufactor bar Bose. I found these after a long search on the internet for just £5.99 on play.com. I was attracted to them by the brand name and I am not disappointed. I got them about 9 months ago and are still performing as well as they did when I bought them after constant use (about 4 hours a day). The first ...
...usually quite uncomfortable so that was pretty impressive. They also come with foam ear buds but I prefer to wear them without it. Next, I tried using them and I found the sound quality to be much higher than I expected. I also have a pair of over-ear Bush headphones that cost £25 and these matched and maybe exceeded it's sound quality. It plays bass and the full spectrum of sound very well. It always manages to produce a crisp sound, even on high ... Read review

Darn good for the price
Review of Sennheiser MX 300 by Lewby

Advantages: Cheap, Good Quality, Durable
Disadvantages: Not brilliant quality

To start off, i shall give you a little background. My earphones recieve a lot of punishment. I use them just before sleeping (And often fall asleep with them in), cycling, jogging and running. This means that i get through earphones like there is no tomorrow. Ive gone through about one pair every month for the past... 18 months i guess. Now that is a lot of money spent on headphones. The sennheisers were recommended by a friend and at only £5.99 ...
...was quite impressed. Whilst the range is not what you would get from high end earphones, It is a lot better then most of the cheap ones you can get. Unlike these cheap hedaphones, the sound is not "Tinny" and to top that, they have lasted me 3 months! The sennheisers do not look like anything special. They are just simply plain black earphones. But what can you expect for £5.99. ... Read review

Good compromise on real quality
Review of Samsung CD Yepp SM55 Personal MP3 CD Players by  pijak

Advantages: Above average MP3 & CDRW playback on a budget, with fairly good skip protection
Disadvantages: Low battery life, not the strongest design, and the usual appalling earphones

...'ve found it far inferior to the shock protection offered by Sony models, and slightly worse than Panasonic. Basically, you can forget about jogging with it in your hand, but brisk walking with it in a coat pocket is quite possible. Playback itself is average for a portable player. Connecting the player to a decent hi-fi gives a fairly clear sound, but it is very far from spectacular. This is not helped by the dreadful earphones supplied with the product, which are tinny and inadequate, so be sure to factor in an extra £10 or so for a better set (I can highly recommend Sennheiser MX300s for example). One other major gripe is the battery life. 14 hours may not seem too bad, but when some of the Yepp's higher priced competitors can offer almost triple the life from a set of AA batteries, it is a bit of a concern. It does make a big difference... Read review
