I began to find a lot of information about a chap called Dr Lee who had an interesting view on the whole issue of PMT and menopause. Women in certain cultures don't suffer from these conditions so why are we so special?
Basically, our diet and way of life has caused us to have hormonal disruption. Synthetic oestrogen comes from all kinds of things including processed food, but in fact it is the progesterone which is the good hormone and makes us feel happy. When there is not enough progesterone to balance the oestrogen then the problems begin. So I realised that when I had tried the Pill in the past and suffered mood swings and nausea it was because I had too much oestrogen.
Anyway, Dr Lee talked about this natural progesterone cream and even though it may be a complicated idea, a lot of things made sense so I ordered a jar. The cream should be applied to fatty areas of the body such as breasts, hips and thighs for the last 14 days of the menstrual cycle. The cream comes with complete instructions so I won't go into too much detail. As a cream it was easy to apply, had no offensive smell and sunk into the skin quickly. My skin felt instantly softer and smoother, but that wasn't the ultimate aim. As the days went by I didn't notice a massive change. However, I didn't get the awful week of premenstrual nausea that I had previously suffered and my cravings for choccy had diminished slightly. And could there possibly be a slight decrease in cellulite on my bum?!! Coincidence or not? My period cramps that month were less severe, but I still had a heavy period. Apparantely, though, this is a good sign as it indicates that all the 'bad blood' is being cleared out. This is supposed to help prevent endometrial cancer, which is always good to know!
I'm now on my third month and not feeling too bad at all. I can't claim to be totally convinced but i'm going to persevere.
I know there are women out there who suffer from worse PMT than I do, so I'd love to hear from them if they've tried it. Also, any women going through the menopause and have tried this product are more than welcome to give their opinion. This cream is quite expensive, £30 for 60ml, so I hoping for miracles to happen in the next few months.
Whether this product works or not, my advice to all ladies out there is not to suffer in silence.
List your symptoms, decide whether you fit into a PMT sufferer category and also look at members of your family ie mum, sisters, aunties. If there is a family history of hormonal imbalance then you are quite likely to suffer too. Instead of just seeking products which disguise the symptoms, such as painkillers, get to the root of the problem and rebalance your body. There are various natural solutions out there, it's just a matter of trying and testing.
