Seroxat is part of a group of drugs called SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). This group of drugs is the front line treatment for people who are clinically depressed by drs, because of it's lesser side effects and lack of dependency. I was put onto seroxat after I had been put on prozac. I found that along with the depression came anxiety and the prozac hadn't targetted that. So as I was already on a different SSRI for 2-3 weeks before the initial side effects of serozat weren't that bad. The only thing I experienced was sleep disturbance. I found that I would wake up at rediculously early times in the morning. I went to the dr because it was disturbing my day and I felt so tired. He gave me some temazepam to help me sleep and soon after the insomnia went. From then on I stayed on seroxat for about 3 weeks. During this time I found it very helpful for my anxiety problem, by this I mean I experienced extreme anxiety about my health, which being a medical student really doesn't help!!However I began feeling a bit depressed again due to the stress of exams looming. But for the time I was on it , it was good. If you are taking it for the first time, expect to experience things like nervousness (palpitations, sweating, fast breathing), sexual dysfunction which is a common complaint with these drugs, erectile dysfunction, lack of orgasm. Headaches, anxiety, insomnia. It may seem ironic if you're being put on these drugs for anxiety and they may cause it as a side effect but I never really got that, but I was fine on it. I think also there has been bad press about it, in that it can cause suicidal feelings, but I was fine on it, however I have never felt suicidal anyway, so it could be different for people who have.
