The Irrelevant Bit
We have only lived in our house for about a year and had the privelege of moving in to it brand new. (I only have one child and there are two adults!) The small load factor would make it less of an option for the larger family. But I would recommend a Servis washing machine to any one!

The Irrelevant Bit
We have only lived in our house for about a year and had the privelege of moving in to it brand new. I loved the kitchen with its Wood cabinets and chrome accessories. Another thing I loved was the fact that wires for appliances were connected straight into the wall, without the need for plugs, then you had a switch, like the ones you have with cookers, to turn it on! Excellent and neat! But not ideal in this instance!
The Relevant Bit!
My washer had come with a BS 136a 13 Amp fused plug. Unfortunately it is a safety plug and to wire it up would mean removing it!! This would actually have invalidated my One Years Guarantee on the washing machine.
The solution:- I have a flex stretched up over my work surface, which is highly annoying!!
Any way this by the by, you want to hear about the washer, dont you!
The washer is easy enough to set up, red pipe for hot water, blue pipe for cold thena whoite waste water pipe. Just make sure you attach them securely.Although it says not to use tools to tightenas this could damage the connections!
Oh and dont forget to take the screws out of th back to release the drum! otherwise your washer will hop all over your kitchen when it starts to spin! Believe me!!
The washer also comes with an instruction manual and a CDRom which has troubleshooting on. Quite handy! There are loads of great tips on stain removal and also example weights of clothes. For example, a double sheet weighs around 907gm, a blouse weighs around 113gm. Very handy when sorting loads out! You can not fit as much as you always would like in a washer!
I also got a small pack of Ariel Tablets and some money off coupons.
The spin speed on this washer is 1000 rpm (approx). Not the fastest in todays standards but sufficient! There is a gentle 500 rpm spin for delicates. The machine is relatively quiet! I have heard a lot noisier! No, it is quite suitable.
The maximum wash load is 10lb or 4.5kg.
The washer has two buttons, one for half wash and one for power on! The dial holds all the programmes to choose from. These are listed on the front of the powder drawer.
Programmes
95 C + Pre wash
This is a separate wash of 40 C followed by the boil wash. Ideal for heavily soiled whites. This cycle takes hours!!! I have only used it once! I have found other wash cycles to be sufficient.
60 C Colourfast Cottons
Suitable for all your lights and whites. This cycle has a 'A' active class washing performance. This conserves energy whilst giving you a high performance wash! Again, a regular programme of mine. reliable although it does take a good hour.
40 C Non Coloufast Cottons
Suitable for your darks. Idfeal for your full laundry basket. I find this wash suitable for all my sons grubby togs. It is probably the most frequently used programme.
Superrinse/Spin.
This gives clothes the full 1000 rpm spin for a longer period of time.Clothes are thoroughly rinsed.
Rinse/Spin
This is a slightly shorter spin.
Fast Spin
Suitable for hand wash articles.
60 C + Pre wash
40 C wash followed by a full 60 C wash. This is suitable for delicate fabrics such as cotton, nylon and polyester.
60 C White Nylon
Ideal for all nylon, polyester and cotton or cotton mixes. Maximum load is only 5 lb (2.2kg) As the load amount is so small I do not tend to use this programme.
40 C Economy Wash
Shorter wash programme for your lights and whites. Only 5lb (2.2kg) load though. I tend to use this cycle, if, on an evening I need something washed for morning. Reliable and takes around half an hour.
Rinse/Slow spin
A slower speed for a smaller wash for delicates.
Slow Spin
This spin is suitable for hand wash articles which need a slow spin.
35 C Wool/Wool Mix
Delicate programme for your woolen garments. I have never used this cycle so can not comment on its performance.
The powder for your washes is inserted into the drawer in the front of the machine. There is a slot for pre wash, one for full wash then a tray for fabric softener. The drawer slides in and ou easily and can be removed to clean if necessary!
In the bottom corner of the machine, there is a filter. This gets clogged up every now and again so needs to be emptied. Be warned, as water does collect and will pour out everywhere!

Advantages: washes brillaintly easy to use Disadvantages: make it more environmently friendly but it was bought 6 years ago!
i bought my servis washing machine back in august 2001 for just under £200. I have had it in three of my homes and is very easy to transport. I am extremley happy with this purchase as it has lasted me nearly 6 years. i have been told that washing machines only have a 2 year life expectancy so i am well pleased!
it has only now stopped working and i am about to get it repaired as i dont want another machine! its main cycle lasts about an hour and ...
