I shouldn't complain as up until buying this Servis M6002, my faithful Zanussi had served me well, and so had the Zanussi previously. The first lasted me 13 years and the second one 9 years, so I cannot complain!

Everyone will know that when your washing machine packs up, it is a major inconvenience. I shouldn't complain as up until buying this Servis M6002, my faithful Zanussi had served me well, and so had the Zanussi previously. The first lasted me 13 years and the second one 9 years, so I cannot complain!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CHOOSING A MACHINE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was all set to buy another Zanussi, but unfortunately I did not have the money at the time, due to Christmas, garage bills etc, and desperate for a new washing machine, I had no choice but to look at cheaper makes and models.
I settled upon the Servis M6002, as it seemed to meet my requirements and was a decent price, at £220. I also remembered I knew someone who had a Servis washing machine which had given no problems.
The washing machine was available in two colours, white and silver. I opted for the silver model to match other appliances in my kitchen.
Delivery was quick, and I had paid £20 extra for the delivery men to take my old machine away and fit in the new one. However, when it arrived, the delivery men stated they could not take my old machine away as it was not on their list, and also they do not fit washing machines, as they were delivery men, not plumbers! I explained I had paid extra for this service, and they looked at each other, sighed, and explained this happened all the time and advised me to ring the shop - Currys. They then left, leaving me with two washing machines in my hallway. I rang the shop and was told they were having problems with this service and refunded my £20.
My partner decided to fit the washing machine, thinking it would be straightforward, as all the plumbing was there already. Wrong! The connections were totally different, with this machine using a 'Y' connector. Also I had to make a trip to B&Q to buy a spanner the correct size to remove the spacers and lock screws, which are used for transport purposes. ( I had an abundance of spanners, but why is it you never have the correct size tool you need?) Eventually, after a couple of hours cursing and swearing from my partner, the machine was connected and ready to use.
~~~~~~~~~~ THE CONTROLS ~~~~~~~~~~
Appeared straightforward and easy to use. The controls are arranged on the front panel, consisting of a programme selector dial, on/off button, mains/power light, and option buttons for pre-wash, wash plus, no spin, and finally a start button.
Selecting a programme is easy. Just turn the dial to the appropriate programme after placing your washing powder/liquid in the machine. I always wonder if there is anyone who actually uses ALL the programmes available on washing machines? I know I don't! The dial is easy to understand, with 5 programmes for cottons, 3 for synthetics, 3 for wool/delicates, as well as programmes for handwash, quickwash, coldwash, rinses and finally pump & spin. The spin speeds are 500 and 1200rpm.
After selecting your programme, press the start button - this confused me at first as it doesn't actually look like a button! It looked like a light to me, and this and the options buttons do not actually push in, you just touch them. The options buttons (which also look like lights) are to be used in addition to the programme selector dial, they cannot be selected on their own. You then hear the door lock and the machine starts.
The maximum load is 5kg.
~~~~~~~~~ MY THOUGHTS ~~~~~~~~~
Overall, I haven't had a major problem with it. It works, and it washes the clothes ok.
However there a few little niggles :-
1. After selecting 'start' I often find the machine does not start until I give the door another push, to activate the door lock. The door is closed properly, but often needs this little shove to get it going! I rang up the customer service helpline and was told that the door sensor is very sensitive and I must ensure it is shut properly. I explained that I do, but they insisted that I must not be closing it correctly if this happens, and the fact that it works when I give it another push, proves the point! Hence to say, I am not that impressed with the service from Servis!
2. If you press start and walk away before you hear the door lock :- if the machine has not started because you haven't given the door another push, you will find you have to turn the dial back to 'stop' and reset the programme as all the lights begin to flash.
3. The machine does seem much noisier than my Zanussi and the programmes take forever! It seems to be washing for a lot longer than my old machine and when I queried this I was told it is more economical.
I went on holiday recently and had to teach my daughter, the little routine to get it going and explain how she would have to start all over again if the lights start flashing. Also a work collleague was talking recently about her washing machine, outlining the same niggles that I have mentioned above, and it turned out she has exactly the same machine as me! So maybe it is a common problem with these models?
Would I buy this machine again? I have to say no. It works ok and I have not had any problems other than my niggles above, but they are enough to put me off buying another. Somehow I cannot see this washing machine lasting me 13 years!
