Seven Seas, One-A-Day Pure Cod Liver Oil plus Multivitamins is described on the packaging to contain the recommended daily allowance (RDA) intake of Vitamins A,D,E,C,B1,B2,B6,12 as well as Niacin, Folic Acid and Biotin. Firstly, this product is contained in a cylindrical plastic container with a screw on lid. The label is red, yellow and blue, just as shown on the picture. It has a seal - written on it is 'Quality Control Guaranteed - Seal of Quality'. Promising, since this product is of good quality. The other important ingredients include Cod Liver Oil, Omega 3 nutrients providing EPA and DHA at unestablished RDA levels and Biotin at a lower RDA. Altogether the results that should be achieved by intake of these capsules is to keep joints supple, give healthy hair, skin and nails as well as strong bones and teeth.
Also on the packaging, in terms of who this is not suitable for, it warns to keep away from young children, and if you are pregant or planning a pregnancy you should consult your doctor before usage. Furthermore it warns that the product should not be used as substitute for a varied diet.
Anyhow, I have been taking one capsule everyday for the past six months. My decision for taking Seven Seas was based on how I took quite a battering from my hectic student lifestyle. This comprised of late nights, early mornings, lack of nutrients from my diet, a lot of stress (which aided in worsening my symptoms)and occasionally very dry skin.... (I'm painting an awful picture of myself...). Since this product contained so many different things and me being rather lazy I saw this as ideal. But what interested me most really was the 'Helps maintain energy levels' print on the front. I had been suffering from lack of energy for a while (whilst not anaemic etc.) and resting did not appear to resolve this. I believe this to be mainly due to low level of nutrients in my diet.
After about a month's daily intake of the capsule I felt the maximum effectiveness of Seven Seas. Throughout the first month I did progressively feel more awake/energetic but it comes to a plateau after a month as I felt fully recharged, by that point. I also felt significantly more healthy and believe my skin condition had improved as before it was more prone to bouts of ezcema. Recovering from illnesses also seemed to be more rapid! And since then I've been taking it daily. Just goes to show how having the right nutrients leads to a domino effect of good health. :P In terms of my hair I have not noticed much difference, but it is in more or less good condition, considering my prolonged use of hair straighteners. It is hard to tell whether my bones, teeth and joints have much benefitted from this product; however I can tell you I feel much healthier. Finally, I am basing my review on a more or less constant hectic lifestyle... So it is hard to confirm whether or not slight changes in my lifestyle/environment are more likely to contribute to me feeling healthier rather than the product itself. Hard product to review but as I said before I do feel a large improvement!
One downfall in this product is the expense. I believe the price range from £4-£10 for varying sizes... e.g 30 capsules, 90 capsules and 120 capsules. And as with most products the higher quantity one you buy the more worth it, it is. This can be bought in shops like Wilkinsons, Boots (more expensive but sometimes they have a good deal plus their loyalty card helps :P) and most supermarkets.
What annoys me about this product is how it looks quite big... then you open it and its half full... :P. The black capsules are also quite big to swallow, however the smooth exterior helps, so if you have difficulty taking capsules this isn't too bad. Just make sure you do not bite into them... :(... You'll be in for a rather unpleasant surprise... I have not done so myself but I do recall as a child i bit into a pure cold liver oil tablet... It was the worst taste I had ever experienced. The smell of the capsules is the usual stench you get from multivitamins (if you've ever smelled them)... that is - not very nice.
Lastly but not least I do feel extrememly bad for all the Cod... Poor fishies... I'm likely to switch to Hemp tablets as this contains all the essential and apparently equivalent essential oils. But most of all MORE vegetables etc. for me!!! Nothing beats a healthy diet.
