As the Sharp EL-531VH calculator is one of the most popular calculators in my college, and no doubt in other places it is a handy piece of equipment where if you are unsure how to use a function others will be of great assistance. My maths class have the Sharp EL-531VH calculator as a recommended calculator to use for A-level mathematics therefore you cannot go wrong with one of them in your hand bag.

I bought the Sharp EL-531VH calculator many years ago from my school maths tuck shop. It was on sale there as we needed it for our lessons therefore were persuaded to buy it. I have had it since then and it has been over 6 years and it is still absolutely fine, mind you my chemistry teacher has had a computer since he was teaching pupils since the ancient times and his is still working so this calculator has been beaten.
Nevertheless this is a handy piece of equipment that can become your best friend when in need, especially when water enters one ear and drips out of the other, i.e. no brain! It doesn't take a genius to use the calculator and the functions are all present in an easy display manner therefore user friendly.
The packing of the calculator consists of it being placed on a plastic sheet with a card board support. This makes it easy to come out of the package and very light and manageable when bought. Maybe this is not a great advantage but trust me, when you have a lot of shopping with you, you'd rather have a calculator in a small pack rather than it being placed in a massive box which takes up a grate deal of space
The calculator itself comes in a matt grey colour with an off white/grey background. The buttons on the screen are in either dark grey or again, off white/grey colour. The special keypads e.g. 'ON' and '2nd F' are in red/orange so that they stand out. The function are on the buttons of the calculator and are placed above the buttons where the '2nd F' key comes into place. A very elegantly made and structured piece of work with a very thin volume handy to fit in the tight spaces in the briefcases/ bags.
----------------------------------------Instructions--------------------------------Inside the calculator case there is a back pocket which has a dark grey colour card inside it. The card has all the instructions on it to illustrate how to use the product. The instructions are very user friendly and provide simple instructions in order to function the complex facilities equipped with the calculator. It contains the following sub-headings under which the information is shown:
SCIENTIFIC CALCULATINS
VARIABLE STATISTICS
CONSTANT CALCULATIONS Under these headings are functions and the method in which they are used. For me these have come in very handy especially when I forget the method of using the function buttons on the calculator. As the card has its own specific pocket in the calculator piece it is sure not to get misplaced therefore is very manageable.
-----------------------------------------Price----------------------------------------The price of the calculator is the best bit. The calculator cost me £5 at my maths tuck shop at school. Maybe my school bought them in a batch or got school discount, which is why they were cheap but even so, WHSmiths sell them at a slightly increased price of £7.99. Even at this price it is very very reasonable as it being very long life (so far, never speak to soon) but also has all the functions that scientific calculators have that are at dear prices.
If in any case everything goes wrong and you have no idea what has happened to the calculator (most likely when the mode has been changed, then not to worry! All that is needed is for you to poke the back of the calculator beside the word 'RESET' and the calculator will successfully reset the calculator so that it is able to function again.

Overall I very slim and elegantly made calculator, made in China for those that have pea brains (joke) but for those that are very practical and up-to-date with style.
One with the Sharp EL-531VH calculator cannot go wrong in life!! Thanks for reading.....Enjoy
Advantages: Plenty of functions, rather sexy blue colour :p Disadvantages: Only battery powered, no graphical ability
...The answer? The SHARP EL-531VH
LOOKS
********
The first thing that attracted me to this wonderful calculator was the fact it stood out so well, being a wonderful translucent blue colour, I figured it would make it that little bit more difficult to lose! The screen is of a fair size, providing enough room for digits to be clearly seen, as well as space for the current mode to be displayed and one line of complete playback.
The buttons are clearly ... ...in WHSMITHS, but this was a few years ago, I expect availability to be alot less now.
Overall, I think the SHARP EL-531VH is a wonderful piece of kit, and is more than suitable for everyday sms, as well as more complicated equations.
Thanks for reading.
