i am sure that most of you know what a calculator is and you have probably used one aswel. but not everyone will know what the difference is between the ones with the fancy names right? even thought i am meant to be telling you about the scientific calculator i think it is a lot easier to understand the difference if i first explain other types of calculators you can buy. there are many different types including the standard calculator, the printing calculator, the graphical calculator and of course the scientific calculator.
so what is a calculator used for? a calculator is basicly to help you out with sums. it is very effective as it is quick and also very accurate.
all you need to do is type in what you want it to work out for you and it will instantly display your answer on its screen. this is very quick and will save you heaps of time and stress. a calculator is very simple to use and you can buy one that suits you.
the standard calculator the is just a normal little calculator that i am sure most people have used before. it is the easiest to use and the cheapest one to buy as it isn't as fancy as the other ones and doesn't have loads of added features, which may not really sound as good but if all you want doing is some simple sums working out fast then this is perfect for you. it has everything you need to work out simple sums, including the numbers 0 to 9, the times, divide, plus, subtract and equals buttons. there are also a few other buttons but these can vary depending on the make of the calculator. you can buy a standard calculator from around £3 for a very basic one up to just about any price.
the printing calculator this is basicly the same as the standard calculator, however it is a little more advanced as instead of just displaying what you have typed in on the screen it will print it out for you. this is very good for people that either need written proof of what they are working out or if they want to make sure that they don't forget it. it does exactly the same job it is just on paper and so the answer can be saved for further use. i would advise this calculator to people who have a lot of simple sums to work out where you need to keep all of the answers together. one bad thing about this is that they are quite a bit bigger than the normal calculators and so do need storage space.
the graphical calculator i think that this is one of, if not the, most advanced calculator you can buy. it is even more advanced than a scientific calculator. on this calculator you will notice that the screen is rather large, that is because this calculator draws graphs for you. obviously a lot of people do not need this feature, but for people who do this can come in very handy. one problem with this calculator is that it is quite expensive, one of the cheapest ones is priced at about £15 and it is very complicated to use if you have never used one before.
the scientific calculator so finally the calculator you have all been waiting to find out about. this fantastic little piece of plastic is cleverer than any human i know. it is a lot more advanced than the standard and the printing calculator, but is also a bit more expensive and a bit more confusing to use. however, once you do know how to use it, it is just fantastic. you wont believe how clever this little thing can be. it can't draw graphs but it can do just about anything else you want it to with numbers. if you make a mistake you can just go back instead of having to start all over again like you do with some calculators, it has 5 memory buttons to remember any number or sum that you have worked out for you to use easily again in the future. there are so many added bonus's to this i suggest you go out buy it and see for yourself.

i would definately recommend this calculator to anybody. it is long lasting and is priced between £8 and £14 depending where you buy it from. most large shops that sell stationary should stock this calculator. it is also very long lasting and the batteries seem to last a lifetime.
