First I will start by stating I always buy Nokia for numerous reasons, I tried a Sony once and it lasted a day before exchanging it for a Nokia.
I've again ventured out of the mighty land of Nokia.
I plumped for the Sharp GX20 as I read numerous reviews on the web raving about the phone and it's features.
Once the phone arrived first impression was that it looked very stylish although I had reservations about the size, although small in height it's quite chunky and it felt quite heavy even without the battery in.
Battery and sim installed I started to have a good fiddle about.
The menu system although very easy to use is not as good as the Nokia menu system, Nokia is king there and I won't harp on about it.
What I like about this phone . . . .
Camera, first time i've used a camera phone and the experience was excellent. Easy to take pictures and great quality. When your happy with a picture it's easy to save to your phone, you can text or email it to a friend. I really liked this feature. You can also make video clips with sound for ten seconds.
Games, I don't use my phone much for games but having played with a few of the games on the phone that might change. The games i've played on the nokia aren't too hot. On the Sharp the graphics/sound are great and have excellent playability. Great for those long train journeys or long delays waiting to see the doctor!
Things that are satisfactory . . . .
Battery life seems fine.
Reception seems ok but has broken up a few times in places I don't normally get a bad reception.
Easy to connect to the net and download those expensive ringtones/games, even though it's GPRS it does take an age to connect to websites.
What i don't like like . . . .
Texting on this phone i just do not like! On my Nokia i can press the buttons without looking at the phone and i get the letters i want. On the Sharp the phone doesn't respond to the speed of your fingers, i just don't like using this phone to text.
When using the phone and the phone is open it feels top heavy. I understand this happens because the camera is in the top half of the phone. But it just doesn't sit in my hands very well, i just can't get used to holding it! I like a nice small phone that sits nicley in one hand, this one needs to be held with two.
Alarm, one word, dreadful! What is the point in having a alarm in a phone that needs to be left on to work? I don't want to receive calls during the night, i know i can divert all calls but i just want to be able to set my alarm and turn my phone off, simple.
I've used the phone for 2 days and just don't like using it, the things that let the phone down are the important things to me, text, comfort/feel and having an alarm!
My sim is back in my Nokia and the Sharp GX20 is in the loot!
