I work as a freelancer and get (sometimes) enough time in my hand to write about things that I like, dislike or even things that I'm not so sure about. My opinion is honest and always personal.

I’ve recently got a SHARP LX20 as a free upgrade which came as an unexpected surprise as this was the first time that I didn’t have to pay a penny not even for delivery charges. But I must admit I wasn’t so keen at first, on getting this particular phone for many reasons. The main reason being that it is a flip phone. I’ve never liked flip phones but I agreed to get it as it was free and I was also told that it was the best one from the ones that were available at the time.
This was the first time that I didn’t really want to upgrade my phone as my old one had everything that I thought that I needed at the time. A phone with a camera and a decent size screen where I could see my pics clearly and read my text messages without having to scroll down every other line because the screen is tiny. My previous phone was a Sagem MYX 6 and I was quite pleased with it, except of course from the fact that you couldn’t
download any games (not a bad idea actually, if you have to pay at least a fiver for each game and you get bored with them easily)
The only problem I had with my previous phone the last couple of months, was that the reception had deteriorated considerably and I used to miss phone calls not only because of bad reception.
So when the new one arrived I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. It had a decent size screen, the keypad was bigger and easier to use especially for texting and the quality of pictures and sound was really good.. When you do download a polyphonic tune you can clearly hear what it actually is.
The Sharp LX 20 has tri band, camera with built-in flash which it does take decent photos but you have to have a steady hand otherwise they tend to be blurry, built-in torch (for which I haven’t found a use yet), built-in IrDA port, digital camera so you can shoot and send video clips (although they do take a lot of memory and they are rather expensive to send –if you’ll see my recent bill to understand what I mean), GPRS-enabled which it means you are always connected, WAP (which in this phone I finally found useful and have used many times, especially if you are downloading games and tones), MMS, 2 MB memory storage capacity (which isn’t that much really), it also supports Java technology (you can download and play decent games) & it comes with handset manager software
Taking pictures and videos with this phone is pretty straight forward and the quality isn’t bad if you have a steady hand and your subject stays still, something that my cats don’t know how to do.....The digital camera facility has a 3 stage digital zoom feature and the results are then displayed on a 65k colour LCD resolution . The GX20 also has a full colour external display which you can configure yourself with the clock and the wallpaper. It comes with a rechargeable Li-ion battery, a charger, hands-free kit, CD-ROM and a user guide which I must admit didn’t use much, better to play with the phone yourself and learn how to use the different features.
Many think that the size is a bit bulgy but I find it quite reasonable as I think that small phones are difficult to handle as the buttons and keys are too small to navigate. It’s silver with an external colour screen which you can personalise and see who’s calling, if you are having a picture of the person, without opening the phone. The camera is located central to the phone, above the TFT display. The lens isa reasonable size and the picture quality is very good for a phone that is. The menu system features small icons, all located on the screen at once but you can access straight away the Vodafone live, camera and the text service for the rest you have to go through the menu. . The ringtones are polyphonic and there is a composer built-in. The GX20 doesn't support Bluetooth so you can only end pictures/videos by IRDa (infrared), but it takes for ever. It only comes with one rather boring game (bomblink) which it means you’ll probably end up buying more; the tones are rather boring and plain so you will again need to buy a few more. It has all the other normal features like a calendar, alarm, voice recorder, calculator, etc but unfortunately the battery doesn’t last that long especially if you are using it a lot....when it goes down to the two lines you better recharge quick as it turns to run out of juice suddenly and you will are end up with a ‘dead phone’ in a very short time.
Overall, the GX20 is a great phone, with a great camera, video recording and polyphonic ringtones and it definitely changed my opinion regarding flip phones, but I can see all the good sides because I got it for free but if I had to pay I’m not so sure that I would have got it or not...

Advantages: Amazing Camera Quality as always from Sharp(Sharp Gx 20 and up) Disadvantages: Vido Recording is only 15 seconds and the battery life isnt really my cup of tea.
