The sharp hc 4500 and 4600 models were introduced quickly to compete with the growing handheld market. Since palmtop and pocket pc computers have been rammed down our collective consumer throughts, the handheld genre has been near-descarded. However these sharp models have plenty going for them. The memory (16mb) is perfectly adiquate for anything you might try to do on a handheld computer, and the processor (p75) is eqaully sensible. Although there ... ...can be much more. the sharp models have colour LCD screens, which do their job well except with the more taxing end of the games market (i.e. Doom CE, Palm GB). Their keyboards are poor, but no worse than the rest of the models on sale today (with the exception of the the psion 5 series or later). Although there may be some faster models availible: what will you use the extra power for? many handhelds are simply note-takers; although their uses can be much more. the sharp models have colour LCD screens, which do their job well except with the more taxing end of the games market (i.e. Doom CE, Palm GB). Their keyboards are poor, but no worse than the rest of the models on sale today (with the exception of the the psion 5 series or later). The other features of the sharp are standard, with nothing particularly special to set them out from the crowd. The sharp is a perfectly serviceable handheld, but only and adviseable purchase if you can buy one cheaply.
This PDA runs linux, has a neat flip down keyboard, has microsoft compatible programs, works with wireless networking / digital cameras / GPS modules and allows data transfer to both linux and windows PCS
The Battery is poor and the unit will loose data if left with a dead battery. Stylus tends to break. (*)
