This TV is a 'real' HD ready TV with Screen resolution of 1366 x 768. Not like the other LC P55E or P70E models of similar price which were previously advertised as 'HD ready' but in fact they are not. They are EDTV i.e. screen resolution can go up to 900 x 540, not really high defintion. Strangly enough, the sharp UK website did not have the specfication of LC26GA6E but the others mentioned above.
You can hang this TV on the wall without professional help as it is not heavy. Or, you can use its own (quite strong) table-top stand although it seems a bit bulky to me.
I like the design of the speakers all at the bottom so that the screen is almost the same width as the set i.e. full use of the width. For those that have side speakers, they looked bulky. The speakers are 2 X 10W, better than most of the others for normal use.
The TV is easy to install (fully automatic) and use. Also, it has an optical sensor which will adjust the backlight according to the light of the room for better viewing. The viewing angles is expected for modern LCD TV of 170° to the screen. It has several display options (dynamic, games) to eliminates blurring on high speed moving images with 15-16 millisecond latency. There are a few pre-set contrast/brightness options to use with a custom one that you can decide for yourself.
Also, it has several screen sizes to fit various purposes (cinema, panoramic, full, auto, widescreen, normal). However when it is widescreen, the whole screen is not fully used. There are still two thin strips (one above, one below) not used. Cinema and panoramic occupies the whole screen but something at the edges could be missing. Auto may not always be the best option as it depends on the source of the input (TV broadcast, DVD) and may give you the screen size that you don't want.
The display is good and 'sharp' and no blurring with fast motions. Audio quality: Nicam sound, Virtual Dolby surround as expected.
Connections: Plenty of it: 2 scarts (ext 1 and ext 2), RGB in and out (ext 3 for additional camcorder, camera, DVD player), component YPbPr socket (ext 4 for higher definition connection), HDMI (ext 5 for HD broadcast or film), audio out, Headphone socket, S-Video socket.
This sockets and ports are all on one side and can be consealed with a cover. The cables can be tied up with a cable tie and then clipped with a clip at the middle of the stand. Neat!
The cheapest price for this TV at the moment is from A.J. Electronics @£525 (VAT and delivery included). Ideally the price should be below 500 and it may be in the future.
The instruction menu is easy to follow and very helpful. Good TV overall.
