I purchased this monitor as I work a lot with large graphics packages and a 17 inch monitor has really improved my navigation and viewing. For basic word processing a 17inch monitor may seem a little big but it does not decrease the quality of any image at all.

The visual design of this monitor is fair but its not very modern in look due to its black plastic being rather boxy but the fact that it is a flat screen TFT means that it takes up very little space on your desk. The screen is 6 cm deep and doesn’t have any box on the back or anything. The base stand is 24 x18 cm and 1 cm high. The border of the screen is 3cm and the screen 34cm x 27 cm

The resolution of this monitor is a good 1280 x 1024 though if required you can set it lower. It boasts 16.9 million colours and I certainly haven’t wanted anything more from its colour variation and it is good to display all films and images I have well.

One main problem I have had with flat screens in the past is that when you scroll down the screen the monitor takes a long time to catch up, with this monitor however this is not the case. The picture is consistently good and refreshes fast for movies games and scrolling, if you look very carefully you can see the text flash red when scrolling but I haven’t found this obvious or annoying

One draw back is that there is a small variation of colour throughout the screen. This is particularly obvious with black as you can sometimes see strips of dark grey amongst a purely black screen but again I have not found this a problem and I am informed it is quite a frequent occurrence in TFT flat screens. As is the fact that it is hard to view the monitor perfectly from an angle that isn't directly in front of it as the colours change or go darker so it wouldn’t be good as a monitor to show something to a group of people but one person looking at it on a desk is fine.

The base stand is very stiff. This means that it is quite difficult to adjust the tilt angle of the screen. The rotate mechanism is very easy though and you can spin round the monitor without hassle.

This monitor comes with built in speakers and this is good as it means that you don’t have to have separate speakers taking up desk space. However the quality of these speakers are poor. They work fine for quite talking and desktop sounds but anything loud such as music tracks cause a crackle. The volume can be adjusted on the monitor and there are also contrast, size and colour setting easily adjustable on-screen.

Installation was no trouble at all with XP, literally plugged it in and it worked unfortunately I have no knowledge of how easy installation would be on other set-ups. It does require its own power source but comes with its own lead with adapter. It also comes with the speaker lead if you require to use its speakers rather than separate ones. It comes with a manual but I didn’t really need to use it as it was very self explanatory

I have had my monitor for 5 months now and I don’t regret my purchase. It was from Argos for £369.99 I have had no problems with it and there was a 3-year on site warranty included within the box. I would recommend it to others.
