“The Future”

published 23/07/2000

Prosmall, light, handy and compact for every need.

Consslightly too small screen but managable.

I was bought a minidisk player last Christmas (1999) and was really exited to have a brand new product that non of my friends owned. My minidisk player is small(8.5 X 7.5 X 3cm),light, and very attractive(it is silver with silver buttons and a 3 X 2cm screen). You can play songs and record on it...

Before I start my op, I thought I should just point out that this MD player is not the MD-MT161 as stated above but the MD-MT80. They don’t seem to have that variant available, but I hope you like my op anyway… A couple of months ago, I wrote an op about my local and favourite radio...

ProLower Price

ConsNo Remote Control, Normal AA batteries

I bought my recordable minidisc in November 1999 for £99.99 in Comet and I have seen it costs about that amount still. It was the obvious choice for me because £100 was about my budget and all the others seemed to be around £200 and up to £500! I found that dispite the cost, the unit had style...

ProRecords as well, even at this price (£100)

ConsSmall keys make recording and text entry a chore

This really is a little gem. For £100 you get (or by now, got) a well presented fairly compact MD machine, finished in metal. As a bit of a traditionalist, I always take this as a good sign, as build quality matters with a knock-about product. Perhaps the most remarkable feature at this price, is...

“Great portable recorder.”

published 03/08/2000

ProRecords, has a good set of features, cheap.

ConsNo remote control, battery or charger included.

I got the MD-MT161 from Currys for £99.99 in October last year (1999). It is a great portable recorder that does everything you could want it to do. It has a microphone input, a line in and an optical in. The optical input means that if your stereo has an optical output, you can transfer your CDs...

“Good economey MD player”

published 08/07/2000

Procheap, good quality audio, record option

ConsNo remote control, anti-shock time low,

I was looking for a reasonable priced MD player when I bought the sharp MD-MT161. At the time Dixons had this player on offer for £89.95 at this price this player is excellant for value, but lately Dixons have moved the price back to its previous price of £129.95 which I would consider overpriced...

“MORE BLUNT THAN SHARP”

published 01/06/2001

Prosound quality, build

ConsIts massive and heavy

I could say that it has good sound quality and is easy to use but these assets do not overcome the problem of its size. It is the biggest minidisc recorder on sale. So if your buying because of style or size I would recommend a Sony MZR700. Also it takes 2 AA size batteries and only plays for 15...

ProDoes everything you'd expect

ConsNot TOO great on the old anti-shock

I bought my Minidisc player in a Sale last January, I was convinced I'd got a bargain and rushed home to start my compiling of music. The salesman said that the sound quality was never going to be bettered on Mindisc and so it made sense to buy a cheaper one! I don't know whether or not he was...

“Recording Quality”

published 08/08/2000

ProSound Quality, Ease of Use, Portability, Price

ConsBattery Consumption

Having a Sharp MT161 minidsc player really does open up a world of opportunities. I use mine primarily for recording live inputs, be it DJing or for recording pre-composed music played via a keyboard or computer. I have recorded using standard line in phono leads and can say that the sound...

Proget to listen to good music non stop!!!

Consthere are none!!!!

These small little musical things maybe expensive, but they are definately worth the money. they have good quality and dont need to be turned off after half an hour because of over heating. there was this survey once on tv, this bloke was testing out walkmans, portable cdplayer, a minidisc, and...

“Get it cheap”

published 27/07/2000

Prosmall, cheap, versatile

Consbuttons a bit small and fiddly

I bought one of these from Dixons for £119 which seems fairly cheap compared to other models I've seen. I believe it is an older model that is being phased out, but I have seen newer Sharp models which seem to be virtually the same features for the same money. I guess they use the same basic chip...
