I have purchased a recordable minidisk, the make is Sharp MD Portable Recorder MD-MT80H. They are brilliant if you want to put clarity, precision and organisation into your music collection then buy one of these.
I find them especially good because I have a load of home made tapes/demos all with no labelling so when you transfer your collection to minidisk you can get organised. They have a feature whereby you can Title the Artists Name, Album Name and Song Title and it will show up on the display of the appliance.
Also they have an edit mode, so you can divide combine, move and erase tracks. So if you fancy yourself as an aspiring sound recordist you can move track order, cut up a tune and rearrange it, for instance you love an intro to a particular song you can take that 30 seconds of it and then follow it with your favourite guitar solo etc and there you have it a whole new tune of your own.
However you cannot yet record your own sounds on to it, you can just play around with pre-recorded sounds, which you record on to the minidisk from tape, cd or vinyl with an optical/digital connection lead. But dont be disappointed that is just what all the modern DJs/Bands do, you could in fact be the next FatBoy Slim, De La Soul or even SoulSonicForce.
And did I mention the high quality sound? Even if you record on to a blank disk which cost around £1, 150 times the quality will not be distorted. However I still favour my old vinly's there is always something new to hear even if they are played 600 times.
You will need to buy those super/duper long life batteries for a minidisk as they eat up power like a starving waif.
And they look preety cool silver in colour and small and slim, fits in back pocket no probs, just dont sit on it. Although I dont think this would break if you dropped it once, I wouldnt recommend it, after all £100+ish isnt a good price to chuck away.
