In the past few months, Personal Video Recorders (PVRs) have started to emerge that allow you to record programmes broadcast through digital terrestrial (Freeview) services onto hard disk drives. To watch a recorded programme all you have to do is select it from a list, easy as that. Certainly a step up from seaching for hours through video tapes.
The Sharp TUR 160 H is an excellent PVR for everyday use. It has 2 digital tuners allowing recording of one channel whilst wathcing another. I have sumarised the good and bad point below.
Good Points - Easy to set up and install. Plug in the aerial, connet to the TV, turn on the PVR. First time use requires a channel scan this only takes about 5 minutes. - Easy to use. The PVR has an 8 day electronic programme guide (EPG). This allows you see what is on each channel over the next 8 days. - Easy recording. Simply look through the EPG and press record to select a programme. - Quiet. I have read reviews of other PVRs with complaints about the noise. I personally, have had no problems with the noise the PVR makes. - Hard Disk Space - 160 GBytes hard drive which gives about 80 hours record time. This should be more than enough for everyday use. - Cost - Decent price.
Bad Points (These are only minor and are only here becasue I felt I had to put something) - Only an 8 day EPG. Some PVRs now have a 14 day EPG. I don't really find this a problem. - Only 2 tuners. Again not really a problem but some PVRs allow recording of 2 channels whilst watching a third.
Anyway this is my first review and I hope it makes sense.
