Advantages: simple to use Disadvantages: no eyepiece to look through
I was bought the SharpViewCam for Christmas, at first I was disappointed as I was hoping for a mini digital camera, but the SharpViewCam offers extra flexibility when recording film, as you can look at the LCD screen to see what is being recorded, instead of through a small eyepiece, you can also rotate the picture around to enable self portraits!
The viewcam is also very simple to use with very few buttons to control it, compared with other cameracorders.
The only problem with the SharpViewCam, is if you havnt got a very steady hand you can quite eaily end up with a wobbly film! Which is not such a problem with the standard cameracorders.
This is because with normal cameracorders you can rest it on your shoulder (if its not too heavy!)
The Sharp CameraCorder comes in an ideal size for its type, obviously bigger than the new ...
Advantages: ease of use, excellent sound, good quality video in good light. Disadvantages: placing of control buttons, menu options, low light performance.
I have owned the Sharpvl-pd3h camcorder for about a year now, mainly used for family BBQ's and the odd day trip out. (havn't caught any UFO's yet !!)
First impressions of the camera are of a good quality product, fits nicely in the hand. The main off, camera, vcr control button has to be "pressed" then rotated to the position you want.
The menu of options is very comprehensive, if a bit confusing at first. As with most things, "if you dont use it enough you tend to loose it "
Flip out the viewscreen, hit the record with thumb and your away. I've used the camera mostly on full auto mode (as most people will) but there are a range of manual overrides to correct certain lighting conditions, eg backlight compensation, and very bright conditions where the iris size can be reduced / or adjustable shutter speed can be selected. Camera shake ...
Advantages: Tiny, standard features, good quality, and cheap. Disadvantages: Inadequate battery life, and the doom of the 'DEW' error!
This camera is amazing for what you pay, but by no means perfect. I used this camera intensely for a couple of years, and then it died. And I'll let you know why all in good time. First, the positives.
Positive stuff is easy for this product. In such a tiny gadget Sharp manage to fit a whole lot of camera. Albeit not the best digital videocamera on the market, but definitely one of the best in this price range. The ViewcamZ features tight, responsive focus, a clear screen and a comfy grip. The size means that it will literally fit in the palm of the average adult's hand when you're olding it, giving you easy access to all the vital buttons. It also swivels, oh yes- so you can be holding comfortable, but angled awkwardly. The tape compartment it top-loading, so no having to take it off a tripod if you want to change DV. The zoom is ...

Manufacturer's product description
VL-Z100 offers simple shooting with a Free-Angle 240° Swivel Grip and 2.5" CG Silicon LCD.On a conventional digital camera, the low luminance of the LCD makes images hard to see in strong light. The Viewcam Z solves this problem at a stroke. Its high-transmissive advanced-system LCD (incorporating innovative CG silicon technology) achieves high luminance and high definition, even under bright sunlight. The Viewcam Z's battery snaps snugly out of the way inside the camera's body, where you can leave it even during recharging. This long-life battery gives you the freedom of extended non-stop shooting.Don't worry if the action is taking place far away from where you are. You can catch it all - in vivid detail - with the Viewcam Z's powerful 10x optical and 500x digital zooms. Two handy modes make it easier than ever to film at night. The Slow Shutter Mode is perfect for capturing slow-moving or stable images. And the Night Lumi Mode adjusts the aperture to shoot bright objects in the dark.
