A sharp system at a micro price

Advantages: Powerful, Good design, Nice sound
Disadvantages: No tape deck

of research on the web, which just overloaded me with choices and left me none the wiser as I really needed to see and her the things before I could make a decision, I trotted off to Comet. Size wise it had to be a micro-system, which I love anyway because they're good looking and unobtrusive, so I headed straight for that aisle where there was a choice of about 20 different systems ranging in price from around £40 to around £400. Staring at the selection at around the hundred quid mark, my eye was immediately drawn to the Sharp XL-3500H, a compact system in light wood, clear Perspex and silver. It was different than all the others in that it had no cassette player, but was just a radio and CD player. As I don't like tapes anyway, except in my car, and have a facility for taping on my main hi-fi, this wasn't a problem. The Sharp XL-3500H ...

Review of Sharp XL3500H

The Delorean of CD Players

Advantages: Vertical CD Mechanism & Great Sound Quality
Disadvantages: No Tape or MP3

** First Impression ** I'm not going to try and fall anyone into thinking that Sharp have the quality of makes like Pioneer or Sony, the only real similarity is that they are Japanese and obviously make electrical goods. The SD-EX200H (which I'm going to call the X200, because it is shorter and sounds cooler) is a hi-fi that has served me well for over 3 years, and been Japanese hasn't even hinted at breaking. The main console even survived a 1.5m fall from my shelf, so it is a machine built to last. ** Design ** The X200 consists of a main console with 2 speakers with attachable covers. The CD drive is reminiscent of the doors of the Delorean, as it hinges and the top (swings upwards). The layout is very simple, with 8 spread out square buttons. The LCD display is fairly large with a stylish blue backlight, which can be ...

Review of Sharp SD-EX200H / CD Micro System

The Sharp CD-SW 300 H super system

Advantages: Rich sound, well made, nice 3D surround effect
Disadvantages: Bass may be a little to much for some people

Lets start off with the basics. This model has the now standard 2 cassette deck, Radio and CD player. This CD player also happens to be a 5 disc tray affair and is able to play mp3 and wma discs (good news for tech kids). Now that the basics are done with, lets talk about the sound! First off let me point out if you are a person who doesn't love bass, then walk along, because this beast is a bass demon. The speakers come with a sub woofer and its a insane amount of bass it kicks out. On that point, if you are perhaps looking for a nice little evening Hi-Fi for quiet listening you may want to look elsewhere as even with the bass turned off this still seems to penetrate everything. If your fine with the killer bass then this is for you. Its louder than you will ever need in a home environment, and has all the connections we have come to ...
