Advantages: Made to fit Disadvantages: No measurements on initial plan, designer didn't give full options of various height/depth/widths.
Replacing previous 12 year old MFI Schrieber self assembly units with more or less same. Sharps fit 'wall to wall' and my stuff was going along a wall under a window, so radiator and elec sockets to be moved. Sharps did try to push me along to let the surveyor in (unsuccessfully - I set the pace but did get our side of the work done quickly).
Visited showroom 23 May, designer 24th, surveyor 11 June, delivery 18th and fitted 19th. 3 chests of drawers, kneehole dresser, corner top opening unit and 2 bedside cabinets. No wardrobes.

Replacing previous 12 year old MFI Schrieber self assembly units with more or less same. Sharps fit 'wall to wall' and my stuff was going along a wall under a window, so radiator and elec sockets to be moved. Insisted designer add to paperwork "deposit fully refundable until surveyor visit", then I wouldn't let surveyor visit until we'd got these jobs done and ready to fully commit to non-refundable purchase. Silly to risk losing deposit if elecs and plumbing could not go where I wanted them and that work completed.
Lots of flexibility regarding height, width and depth but designer tends to draw what THEY like, where THEY want it, so be ASSERTIVE and ask loads of questions about alternatives/options/measurements/positioning.
Initially, we nearly ended up with low level bedside cabinets, hadn't initially been told we could have more suitable mid level - all because designer drew what SHE likes!! Also had to absolutely INSIST she move kneehole dresser to where I wanted it as opposed to where she wanted to put to be "symetrical" - who cares, it's MY bedroom.
She chose 500mm deep dresser top, same as existing for "more floor space" (as fitted butting right up to wall as opposed to Schreiber self assembly which had 5" gap behind it - because of previous rad position, which would be moved for Sharps furniture, thus closing that gap). That idea was not practical, 600mm much better as my curtains would draw across the worktops instead of the existing 'gap', meaning I'd have to allow for that with all the crap I keep on top of the surface (mirror etc).
You get no measurements on your 'plan', so be sure you know exactly what you're going to get and that it's what you want. We have a straight run of units wall to wall under a window, ending in a corner top opening box then turning at right angles into the first bedside cabinet (lower than the big run of dressers but higher than the one designer initially picked). Designer vague about EXACTLY what the corner box bit looked like so I had to press to make her find out - after all, I'll be paying and living with it.
Sharps have permanent 50% off (I hate that) and additional £400 discount for next couple of days (Bank Hol discount). I NEVER sign on the dotted line for anything that isn't fully refundable until I've had a chance to think. I wanted some time to visualise the furnishings in the room, so said I'd let her know next morning, and that she should feel free to find out about offering me an additional £100 off! She rang later and said I could have the extra £100, so worth my cheek.
After standing with the plans on our own we decided we wanted deeper worktop, change position of kneehole dresser, higher bedside cabinets. Told her to call again for me to sign and I'd got some questions and possible amendments. She wasn't very happy with my changes as it all meant she had re-draw the plans. I couldn't even muster the enthusiasm to pretend to care about the extra work for her - it's my money and I'll have exactly what I want however much time she has to spend mucking about.
I have no complaints about the all round service though I found the showroom staff somewhat gormless. Our designer didn't want to show us the 'extra's' available (mirrors/stools etc), said it's cheaper from IKEA/Argos - think she couldn't be bothered to spare the additional time as opposed to doing me a favour by saving me money. Wasn't clear about height, depth options so you must ask.
Fitter was clean and tidy, bought a big dust sheet with him. The fitted furniture does not have 'backs' on it. I asked surveyor about kneehole given that heating pipes from the relocated rad would be visible and he agreed to put a 'back' on that bit (and would have suggested it himself I think). Looks good.
All in all I'm very happy, however, if MFI did more white furniture or ANY of their ranges still had the top opening corner boxes they used to do, frankly, I'd save myself £500 and self assembly again. Sharps furniture isn't exactly 'made to measure', more 'made to fit'. You do get a neater job, no gaps etc but you will pay for that privilege. The 'fit' is better, but the quality isn't superior to self assembly.
Sharps definitely have a good choice of range, colour, handles. We are lucky enough to have a local showroom.
Advantages: Stylish furniture competently fitted into your bedroom Disadvantages: Furniture is not of the highest quality.
Picture it if you will – it’s the room that was my daughter’s bedroom. She left home many years ago, but somehow there’s still a tennis racquet on top of the wardrobe, a stack of school exercise books in the bookcase and strange pieces of clothing (what can you do with a ra-ra skirt these days?) that are not actually needed where she’s living at the moment but are far too good to throw away, or so she tells me. It’s not too bad when you just close ... ...turns up it’s a source of deep embarrassment. Well, you can hardly deny that you’ve got a spare room, can you?
Then came the fateful day. I went into the local town and a Sharp’s Bedrooms showroom had opened. I’d like to say that it was the aesthetics of the window display that drew me inside, but it wasn’t. It was the banner which said something along the lines of “50% plus £50 off all prices – offer must end Saturday”. I’m sure that if I’d looked ...

Advantages: Very well finished Disadvantages: Don't care about the customer
Our nearly 15 year old flat packed bedroom furniture had seen better days and we (really me!) decided that we should invest in some new stuff. Picture this, drawers that go lopsided when they fall off the runners. Wardrobe rails that keep falling down, door handles that fall off. Where do we start? First we visited the well known furniture retailer who sold us the original flat packs. Things have improved since then. We chose our favourite design ... ...room measurements. That came to about £1900 including fitting. But it was “put together”. It lacked cohesion and I just had this gut feeling that it wasn’t quite what I wanted.
My daughter and I visited another local fitted bedroom company (when my husband was at work!) and I was faced with the most sexist salesman I have ever met. He told me to come back with my husband! I couldn’t take my business there. The third company I consulted was Sharps. ...

INTRODUCTION
Over past few years there has been an increase in interest in DIY thanks mainly to Carol Smillie, Anna Ryder-Richardson, Linda Barker etc.
I have only dealt with Sharps Bedrooms on one occasion, which was about 3 or 4 years ago. This op is really about the pitfalls to watch out for when dealing with them.
I know very little about DIY but I hope that some of this op will be interesting to read.
WHO ARE SHARPS ... ...for storage solutions and fitted bedroom furniture.
I would guess that Magnet is their nearest rival. Whenever I walked past a Magnet store there was always a sale offering up to 50% off.
The web site of Sharps bedrooms is www.sharps.co.uk.
The site was quite well designed. All their stores in the UK were listed and you could even order a free catalogue.
The TV advertisement of Sharps Bedrooms was quite slick. It gave an atmosphere of calmness ...

Advantages: designer come to house Disadvantages: couldn't even get a quote
After having put up with many flat pack furniture I thought I would teat myself to a 'professional fitted' bedroom. I called both Sharps and Hammonds (I'll write another review on Hammonds later). The appointment was made and the designer duly came as promised. After the initial slagging off Hammond's, he then got to business and started to measure up the area and made some good suggestions and started drawing his plans (of course Hammond computer ... ...to listen to my concerns and he seemed to answer my questions honestly. He the told me that it would take a couple of days, he came on a Tuesday so he told me that I would definitely get it by Friday. A week later I still hadn't received the quote so I rang him myself. His phone rang then went on to answer phone so I left a message, hoping he would get back to me that day. He did not, so the next day I rang him and the same happened, so this time ...

Sharp's Bedrooms
My Husband & I were looking for a fitted bedroom. We started to review the market. Sharps Bedrooms were recommended, since friends of ours had the Oslo Range. We were fortunate enough to see it in their bedroom, and I must say it looked superb.
They told us it came with a 5 year guarantee and gave us an indication what they paid for it. We organised a designer to visit and within a couple of hours, he had measured and designed ... ...no hassle. We told him we were looking for other quotes and he was o.k with this. Had Hammonds arrive a few days later. Different ball game, tried to brow beat us into signing on the day and kept reducing the price. Virtually told us we were wasting HIS time. Decided to go ahead with Sharps, Nice choice of finance plans, took the interest free option. Surveyor came - confirmed everything O.K - delivery came -no problem- Fitted within a day.
Our ...
