Advantages They do the job

Disadvantages They are too expensive for what they are

Intro

Firstly, I don’t really do a lot of writing but there are the odd times where I have wished for a permanent marker. Nothing fancy just one that’s going to do a good job at a fair price. So when recently I saw that David Beckham was advertising these Sharpies I thought well they must be pretty good.

That was a while back, and then I got this leaflet through the door along with all the other junk mail that seems to weave its way past the trash can and into my inbox. It was offering me 20% off these now well advertised pens so I kept the leaflet, not that I really ever planned on buying them but then as I said there are the odd times when you are going to be looking for one and sure as hell you aren’t going to have one. So the other week I used the leaflet and saved myself a few bob.

The Sharpie Pen

The pens come in single, and multiple packs and range from 99p to some way over the top prices, which I believe might explain why Becks is advertising them. They really don’t look all that different from lots of other types of marker on the market. The Sharpie logo if you can call, being that it is simply SHARPIE written fancily, is highly visible along the side of the pens

White base section with a co loured top to indicate the colour of the ink. They have that alcoholic smell you get from permanent markers. The tip also looked pretty normal, since it appeared to be a hard felt type nib. They do coming in varying thicknesses from fine point to almost the thickness of a calligraphy pen. Some versions even come with a triangular metal tip on the top end so that you can connect it to you key-ring………………why? Its not as if you use a permanent marker ALL the time.

I had bought the pack of four orange, purple, olive green, and a lighter purple, I actually bought them thinking the darker purple was black but obviously on writing I discovered different. They write well enough especially the thinner point ones, I’ve used them on tee shirts to write slogans and they are as they say pretty permanent. The colours are quite vibrant and lasting. I did however find that one of my four was a bit low on ink when I first opened it, which was a bit of a disappointment.

Summary

They are very good markers, they work as you’d expect them too, and they are quite easy to use, but I can’t help thinking that I could quite easily buy more cheaper ones which would do exactly the same job. So although I probably should recommend them I’m not going too……………………YOU can KEEP them Becks, they are after all nothing special even if you do say they are. There are equally as good markers out there far cheaper, and I will probably seek them out once this rather expensive purchase has run dry. So all in all a good enough marker and much as I like YOU Becks the pens get a thumbs down on value for money.
