Most of us women folk will own a set of tweezers, of that I am fairly certain. I myself have been searching for the perfect set of tweezers for a long time. Tweezers I have had up until now have tended to be the basic square ended ones from Boots or Bodyshop and although they were effective on the whole, didn't give the help I needed for those fine, whisker like hairs on the fat part of your brow (apologies if there is a technical name for this!). I have Vitaligo, which is lack of pigment - which in turn means some of my eyebrows can grow in white where the pigment on the skin beneath has gone. These hairs tend to be more stubborn with often being quite downy and hard to get a hold of with my regular tweezers from Bodyshop. Their tweezers aren't very flexible and are almost quite stiff to hold, their ends are quite thick and squared which I don't find that effective. I like to tidy up my brows two or three times a week usually depending how many of those little stray hairs reappear, or else I find I resemble a rabbit!

So there I was the other evening, watching my favourite time-killer (purse emptier..!) channel - QVC. QVC for those of you not already in the know is a shopping channel. It has it's own beauty slot a few nights a week called "In the salon with Alison", who is a trained beauty therapist and will speak frankly on many products they sell - could be anything from Elemis, Gatineau, L'Occitane or even straighteners you just never know! so anyway, there was this lady in the salon with her going through her range of products that she had designed, her name was Shavata. Shavata herself has become something of an authority on eyebrows over the years. She is based at the Micheal John beauty salon in London, and allegedly has forged a repuation with the celebrities/pop stars as being the best in the business and has a large celeb' clientele. She formed her own range of tweezers and also a Celebrity Eye Stencil Kit which you can use with her pencils to stencil in a certain look, for instance she does a "Kylie" which is her most popular choice.

I digress ..

Shavata explained that her tweezers were precision tweezers and should eek out the smallest finest of hairs. They looked sleek and I decided this would be an investment, if not in money then certainly time as they were £19.50 plus £2.50 postage. I ordered online, rather than by phone and awaited my tweezers with anticipation. However, the postal strike did nothing to ensure the normal QVC delivery of 2 days. They arrived 6 days later - when I was assuming the appearance of Liam Gallagher (well, I had to give myself something to practice them out on!).

<<Packaging>>

Very simple! These are presented in a cylindrical see-through tube with a firm stopper on on end. Inside, the tweezers have a plastic "guard" on the end to stop you hurting yourself. You have to keep this on when you are not using as they are lethally sharp. This is a handy container to place on your bathroom shelf and means you don't lose them, like you sometimes do with tweezers (ah yes, down the floorboards again - found you). So, practical and effective design.

<<Design>>

Well, like I said these are sharp. Extremely sharp! They are matt silver in colour and are flat for the first inch from the end and then widen out slightly to the tip. From the side these are streamlined, with the last inch tapering to dagger-like proportions, and the Shavata logo engraved inconspicuously on the part where you hold these. The tip is so fine it's best not to touch with your fingertip for fear of puncture!

<<Ease of Use>>

These are a delight to use. I did stab myself on a couple of occassions when I wasn't giving it my full attention ... The fine point was such that I could easily target those finer hairs which are normally too stumpy to get a grip on. I found these tweezed with the minimum of effort and gave maximum effect. The fat part of my brow which I mentioned earlier was smooth as a baby's bum by the time I had finished! This took me less time than normal to do a full tidy-up due to the precise accuracy that these sharp as a pin tweezers give.

<<to conclude>>

I recommend you invest in a set of these and you can find more information about them on either: www.QVC.co.uk and type "shavata" in the search box or go to www.missgroovy.co.uk and look under the tweezer section = both sites retail them at £19.50. This would be ideal as a Christmas present for a friend and a thoughtful one!

Thanks for reading, your comments are appreciated as always

P.S don't let your man pinch these for retrieving fiddly bits in computers/cars etc ... much too expensive for that!

Shona
