If you intend using one of these sockets for anything else, you must make sure the drain is not too much, and of course have a two pin plug attached with an adaptor.
As for safety, these have a pull cord to operate the switch, and are made to comply with BS3052 which is safe in bathrooms, these areas are officially classed as "Zone 3".
The prices vary quite a bit, and range between twelve and forty odd pounds, although the picture Ciao have used is a Micromark model, and these are available at Plumbworld for £23. They are also to be found at some of the major DIY superstores. The tubes are about the only things that wear out, and these are on sale at just a pound each.
If you are OK on electrics, this is an easy light to fit, otherwise choose a qualified electrician.
