I over a period of two months used Shell Optimax on my previous car which I had since brand new - my 307 1.6 Raiper. Over these two months I travelled around 4000 miles, and while using Shell Optimax, my Peugeot actually consumed more Petrol, I travel 50 miles into work and 50 mils back - over the same route and the same traffic conditions, Shell Optimax I found was an expensive marketing product. My 307's fuel consumption was affected, and it drank more fuel. It just did not like at all. Also to make sure I gave Shel Optimax the best possible chance for consistent results, I drove the car excactly the same and checked tyre pressures, and I made sure I did not use the air con. I'm sure that the only advantage in using this petrol is that it drains away your bank account, as it is more expensive than normal unleaded, thus making a healthy profit for Shell. Also there are no independent test results for using this petrol, I'm sure if it was as good as Shell claims, it wouldn't be too much of a problem for them to prove it by fully independent tests carried out on this fuel to reinforce their claims.
I swithched over to Diesel, and I'm never going back to petrol ever, Petrol cars and my milegae does not make sense, I'm now saving around £2000 a year on fuel expenses by switching to diesel.
So to sum it up, the fuel is expensive, no independent test results to verify claims, the product is a marketing tool to increase profits, as no major car manufacturer is endorsing this product, shell themselves haven't offered a money back warranty on it. This expensive fuel will not turn a 1.0 litre into having performance of a 2.0 GTI. The best ways to save fuel is to keep the car serviced accoring to manufacturer guidelines and to drive according to the road conditions and to check tyre pressures on a weekly basis and not to carry any unwanted weight - such as large tool boxs and so on. I would stick to any branded fuel such as BP, normal Shell, Texaco, Esso, Total and Elf. Buyer beware!

I had a very similar experience with my Omega V6, it really liked the Optimax and was better to drive on it, but the consumption dipped noticeably. I have since been using BP Ultimate - both petrol and diesel, in both cases both driveability and consumption have improved. Richard.

I disagree with your review insomuch that i've found a definite inprovement in the performance of my 93 reg Audi 80. However, the difference when put in my previously owned Fiesta Zetec S was marginal-I think if your car was chipped then the benefits would be a lot more distinct.

I think veg oil is the way forward and the sooner the better. Smashing op. Jen :o)
Advantages: Better fuel economy, increased performance, longer life engine and protection. Disadvantages: The PRICE! the fact that there aren't shell garages everywhere....
