The well known logo or trade mark resembling a clam shell, is actually a "Pecten" which has advertised the brand for over a hundred years. It was originally a mussel shell, and has evolved over the years.

This particular oil is suitable for DIESEL engines only, it is recommended for turbos too, plus all manner of industrial engines, agricultural plant, marine engines etc.
Product Details: Shell is a mineral oil, a Multigrade with a standard SAE 15W-40 spec, this has Advanced Soot Control which is Shell's highest quality mixed-fleet heavy duty engine oil. It meets the warranty and service requirements of virtually every diesel and petrol engine manufacturers that recommend a hgh quality oil.
Wilkpedia, states that mineral oil is:- A by-product in the distillation of petroleum to produce gasoline. It is a transparent, colorless oil composed mainly of alkanes (typically 15 to 40 carbons) and cyclic paraffins, related to white petrolatum." Glad that is out of the way.
15W/40? What does that actually mean? it is perfectly simple:- 15 - is the viscosity at low temperatures. W - means it complies with the requirements for winter conditions. (Some people still change for summer conditions) 40 - is the viscosity at high temperatures. Simple as that.
This particular oil is used by the following organisations :- Armed Forces, Police, Fire Service, Ambulances, Lifeboats, AA & RAC, major haulage contractors, and a host of firms who need to rely on their engines.
Shell were one of the many firms who sold oil in glass bottles in the old days.
The need to change is more important than the brand of oil.
And when you do change your oil, remember to change oil filter too. Also, dispose of your old oil responsibly, you can take it to your local recycling depot. . . .
Recommended for all turbocharged diesel engines, commercial road transport, construction industry units, off-road equipment like cranes, dumpers, excavators, earth moving equipment and diesel generators
