DisadvantagesCoat needs attention, slightly more eye problems than average

"Shih Tzu dogs are wonderful. I know because for the last 9 years I have had Molly who is a gold and white girl. Now I guess if you are reading this you may be considering buying one, so I really want to give you a personal account of why they make perfect companions for some, and are maybe not suitable for others. I will also add some really important medical issues which I have learnt from my daughter who is a vet. They are lively little dogs ..." Read review

Once Bitten Twice Shy

AdvantagesCan be loving, affectionate and well behaved.

DisadvantagesCan have a viscious streak.

"...I will tell you that Shih Tzu is pronounced "Shid Zoo" in singular and plural. Not Shit Zu as I once believed! Sorry for swearing, but had to clear that up! My favourite dogs used to be Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso now I don't wish to be anywhere near them. Though beautiful to look at these dogs can have a nasty bite and I have just experienced it. They are generally said to be of warm temperament. They are kept in doors mostly and because of this they ..." Read review

The Lion Dog Review with images

AdvantagesIndependant and sociable

DisadvantagesLong hair and short legs

If I recall, they were kept as guard dogs (inside) and where also used for keeping the monks warm. They ..." Read review

A dog to be proud of

Advantagesloving affectionate companions

Disadvantagesthey need A LOT of attention

"Before I got my first shih Tzu I knew nothing about the breed at all. All I knew was that I wanted a small affectionate dog and to be perfectly honest I thought it was a Maltese that I was getting, but I'm so glad it wasn't. I got Charlie, my first shih Tzu for my 18th birthday, I was 5 months pregnant at the time and I wanted a dog to keep me company during the day as I was on my own a lot . I don't know what I would have done without him. I ..." Read review

DisadvantagesDont live long enough!!!!

"...in the newshopper for five Shih tzu's. We bought the dog as a gamble that turned out to be one of the best choices of our lives. When we arrived at the address to pick up a dog, Our eyes fixed on a dog, she was the only girl of the litter.. she kept jumping up at the cage and yelping for our love and attention.. we knew from this day this dog was the dog for us.. We had a debate on what to call her.. pulling names from a hat.. we chose the ..." Read review
