During the hunt for something new to play I came across this game. I had never even heard of the Persona games before but it looked good and I thought "Well what have I got to loose?".
This game is unlike any RPG I have ever played before. Its a mix of normal RPGing (i.e. running around and fighting monsters) and a social simulation. The plot of the game is fairly simple, you must balance your social life (making friends through Social Links and developing your own characteristics such as Knowledge and Courage) with running through the dungeons of another world trying to solve a murder mystery that has developed in your town and is linked with this "TV World". A simple yet compelling story.
The graphics are not the best ever seen for the PS2. Cut scenes are presented in 2D anime animation. The main playable game is in 3D however it is reminiscent of early games for the console and not as sofisticated as later games. The environments you play through are fundamentally identical even though they look different. When walking through the town you are heavily restricted in where you can go which sometimes gives the game a clostrophobic feeling.
The main point of the game is the battles, these are turn based like many RPGs. Your characters main fighting tools are creatures called Personas, these are creatures from ancient legends and in some cases Gods that aid you in battle. The main character can choose from different Personas which makes this game feel painfully like Pokemon. Though truth be told this is done much better. If you are new to the Persona games like I was you may find yourself getting a bit confused with the seemingly intense ordeal of fusing Personas to create new ones but this feeling soon passes as you play the game more.
The music is mostly Japanese pop. Once you have heard the soundtrack for a few hours you begin to wish they could have done some more songs for it but the main battle songs are by far the best in the game which is good since most of the time you will be battling.
The game starts off easy but soon you will find yourself having to spend a few hours level building so that you can move on to the next boss. If you are in a rush to finish the story this can be frustrating.
New for me in this game was the time block feature. The calender plays a bit part in this game with you required to finish a goal before a certain ingame date. Some actions will drastically advance the time of day so if you are not careful you will find the days flying by and you are no closer to completing your goal. This is part of the charm of the game leaving you to plan your days carefully in advance. The game is quite long and has the option of a New Game Plus for when you complete the game giving it a longer life.
This game is a good choice if you fancy something different from the bog standard RPG. Well worth buying but don't expect to be blown away by it.
Advantages: Great battle system, great plot, Social links are interesting Disadvantages: Can be difficult, very long game
...the Persona offshoot of the Shin Megami Tensei series and is similar to it's predecessor (Persona 3) abeit with some improvements. In this installment, you play as a high school student who gets involved in solving a serious of murders that occur in the town. The game is two distinct parts: the dungeon crawling and the daily routine. Balancing these two is the key to success in the game. The dungeon crawling is similar to that in Persona 3: attacking ... ...Although simple, it works extremely well and is good to play. Each member has a 'persona', a demon-like entity which gives them special abilities. The player character has the ability to change and fuse persona, which gives him the ability to change his skills and elemental alignments. One major change from P3 is the ability to control the other members of your party. The social aspect is unique to the Persona RPGs and is often compared to japanese ...

Advantages: Great Graphics and music, Story is amazing! Disadvantages: Gameplay is repetitive at times, Dungeons are long.....
Persona 4 has by far overstepped the boundaries of traditional role playing and ideals in the video game genre, the whole game surrounds itself around this idea that if you look at the television at midnight on a rainy day u will see your soulmate. But it only gets crazier from there.... The tv's are actually a portal to other worlds, and its all wrapped up in a huge murder mystery where u have to chase the killer into the TV to save the victems..... ... ...emotions you get from this game while playing through the storyline is unbelievable. I have never played a game that has touched my heart as much as this one, made me sad or angry, this is definitely one u guys should not pass up, probably the best rpg for ps2 hands down, rivaled only by FF12 or an equally engrossing game, so go get it and have a great time, its easily a 100 hour game. ...

Advantages: Good Graphic Improvement, Good BM used, Good angle side, More atractive "seiyuu". Disadvantages: -
In the begining of this year ATLUS published their new game titled "Persona 4". This is part of persona sequel but the story is different from Persona 3. The story begun 2 years after the persona 3 story end when the main character (in manga his name is Shouji seta) moved from the big city to town named Inaba. he live with his uncle Dojima and his niece Nanako. He moved to Yasogami Gakuen (high school) and at first he met his new friend there such ... ...Hotel). As long you play it you will met the other characters. Chie told Yosuke and Shouji Seta about urban legend that they can see a someone in the night when raining and called Midnight Channel and they agree to watch that channel. In trailer Shouji Seta was sucked into TV and at the school he told that he saw something and he was sucked into the TV and oddly they saw something same with him but they didn't believe if shoji was sucked up. Shortly ...
