Shopaholic + New York = TROUBLE!!!!

Advantages: Great story, excellent characters and funny
Disadvantages: Could not put it down!

...to starting the next book, Shopaholic Ties the Knot.

The retail price on the back cover of the paperback book which I have is £7.99. I did not pay this price and managed to pick this and 2 others in the series up for just 34 from my sons pre-school. I have also seen this book slightly cheaper on both Amazon and EBay.

The book was written by Sophie Kinsella and published by Black Swan. It has 351 gripping and funny pages. ... more

Shopaholic Abroad

Advantages: Easy read
Disadvantages: Can be predictable in places

I bought Shopaholic Abroad by Sophie Kinsella for a 6 hour flight to New York (which is very fitting for the book) and I could not put it down. This book is very funny, cleverly written and easy to read (which is what I like on any journey). I feel the character Rebecca Bloomwood is very realistic and believable, as I know someone who is very like her. Sophie Kinsella describes in detail the feelings Rebecca has when she goes shopping and I can ...
...those feeling myself when I go shopping. I think we all have a little bit of the Rebecca Bloomwood inside us all especially when we have bought something on impulse and when we have got home we don't know why on earth we have bought it. We all have our little moments when it comes to shopping, that feeling when we walk into a department store and think this store will meet all our needs and wants, or simply justifying to ourselves that buying a new ...

The Shopaholic goes to New York

Advantages: Fun book, light read
Disadvantages: Doesn't take long to read

...a big fan of the Shopaholic Series and Sophie Kinsella books in general. The shopaholic series comes under the chick lit category as it is not deep and meaningful but rather a book to keep you entertained. The books are about a girl called Becky who as you can guess from the title is a shopaholic. Shopaholic abroad is the second in the series following from The Secret Dreamworld Of A Shopaholic. The first book had seen Becky, a financial advisor, ...
...boyfriend later on. Shopaholic Abroad is the story of how Becky ends up going to the US. Her relationship with Luke is going great, she has a fab job as a financial advisor on TV and everything seems to be going well for Becky. Luke is offered an opportunity he can't resist to go and work in the New York. He decides to go and visit to test the waters and takes Becky with him in the hope that she can share his new life over there. Becky is obviously ...

Shopaholic let loose in New York!

Advantages: Funny, easy to read, good book in its category
Disadvantages: No in-depth characters or plot.

...who haven't heard of the Shopaholic series they are about the main character Rebecca Bloomwood who is a shopaholic (not that she always admits this!). In this the second book of the series all is going well for Becky, she has a job on morning TV presenting a personal finances slot advising people with money problems (slightly ironic considering her own problems in keeping in the black, she has credit card bills mounting up and a huge overdraft). ...
...mayhem! The RRP for Shopaholic Abroad is £6.99 but it is for sale on Amazon marketplace from 39p (plus p+p) or eBay for around £2-£3 (including p+p). I would recommend Sophie Kinsellas book to women who want a light-hearted funny read to pass the time. They are amusing, well-written and always end on a happy note. I am off to get the next in the series. ISBN 0-552-99940-7 Published by Black Swan 2001 ©AJ26 2006 ...

Shopaholic Abroad: flex your plastic with Becky

Advantages: Very funny, well written
Disadvantages: More for women than men I think

Background: Shopaholic Abroad is the second of a trilogy written by author Sophie Kinsella. In the first book (Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic) we are introduced to the main character, Rebecca Bloomwood which is a financial journalist by day and a Shopaholic at all other times. We follow her hilarious exploits as she balances credit cards and comes up with lots of harebrained schemes to reduce her credit card debts and increase her income: none ...
...we are introduced to Luke Brandon of Brandon Communications who becomes a key player in Rebecca’s life Plot: In the second book Rebecca Bloomwood has just about paid of all her credit card debts and is working as a financial specialist of the Richard and Judy type tv programme Morning Coffee. Her world revolves around sage financial advice for her tv clients, her boyfriend Luke who is head of Brandon Communications and her continual battle ...

She would buy the Big Apple if she could

Advantages: a great read
Disadvantages: i'm getting way too involved in the characters lives,

After reading the first novel in the shopoholic series, I felt compelled to read the next after realising it was part of a serial. I found I had gotten into Rebecca’s life so much I wanted to know more and more about her, and whether she was going to manage to stay out of debt after struggling with it for so many months. Shopoholic abroad shows Becky travelling to New York with her beloved Luke. She’s now a star on daytime television giving financial ...
...I wont give away the storyline, but the book wouldn’t be brilliant if it didn’t have some if not a lot of tragedy, and unfortunately for Becky this involves being in debt. I truly believe she doesn’t know how to curb her spending, and this novel carries on to show how brilliantly Becky can get into debt, how she hides it from everyone, and how she somehow manages to get through life pretending everything is normal. We still see all the original ...

shopaholic & Baby

Advantages: A very good read
Disadvantages: Need to read other books in series if you want some things clarified

themselves out and you can't help but like Becky - she comes across as very funny and likeable. There are very funny situations in the book, which made me laugh out loud, look out for the part when she is at a baby show and pretends that she has a baby in the pram, or when she pretends that she is in labour early so that she can visit Venetia. There were parts that I was confused about in the book. Quite early on it made it clear that Jess was Becky's long lost half-sister, and that she'd been looking for her - although it did not elaborate on the relationship or how Jess came about to be lost. The writer (Sophie Kinsella) has written other books in this series, though, such as Shopaholic Ties the Knot, Shopaholic Abroad, and Shopaholic and Sister, so it is possible it is the feature of the latter book. So, really you need to read the other ...

Sit up all night reading...

Advantages: funny, you won?t want to put it down
Disadvantages: you won't be able to put it down

I am a member of Mango the book club and a couple of months ago ?Can you Keep a Secret?? featured as the Editors Choice for the month along with a couple of other books. I jumped at the chance as I have read and loved the ?Shopaholic? series. I was that desperate to read this book that I totally forgot that I had ordered it from Mango and almost bought it whilst I was in Tesco one night. Written by Sophie Kinsella, Can you keep a Secret? is the fourth book she has written, the previous three being a series entitled ?The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic?, ?Shopaholic Abroad? and ?Shopaholic Ties The Knot?. The cover is purple with ?Sophie Kinsella? in white writing across the top and below this it says ?Best selling author of the fabulously popular Shopaholic Series?. Below this is the title ?Can you keep a Secret?? in pink ...
