Advantages im not sure
Disadvantages none
This is a very hard one to write about I think. I do give to charities but I never give to charities, which knock, on my door. For example only a few weeks ago a man knocked on the door, he said it would not cost me anything, he continued talking I said money was tight in our house at the minute he continued talking I listened then he slipped in a pound a week could clothe and feed a child. That moment I stopped him. How can he come to my home and bully me into giving to charity surely it is illegal, I felt very intimidated when his friend turned up so I had them both going on needless to say they left empty handed but they were targeting houses for vulnerable people I had to tell them to leave my elderly neighbour alone she was getting upset.
That was a bad experience, I always give to charities in the street even if its only my coppers as penny's makes pounds I normally give to cancer research and nspcc . and I am an Oxfam shopper I like little glasses I collect them only for a few pence but its going to a good cause. you never know when you may need a charity to help and if everyone decided to stop giving what would happen.charity does begin at home, but you never know when you home will need charity so it’s better to give a little to help somebody a lot

I am begining to have a rethink about our homely charities as I have always given and now I am in need and write to every charity I can find I am being told continuously that yes we raise money but for every other country it seems to be except this one. So yes I agree with your op but think that the charities should read it too.

I do dislike the pushy door to door types. Thankfully, they're in the clear minority.

An interesting point. I give what I can, which also is not a lot, but I object to someone trying to coerse me into it. I would never give away money if I needed it for my son though. Tanya xx
