Advantages: Solidly made, excellent sound. Disadvantages: Doesn't come with a record deal
of equipment are of vital importance.
I dropped a Shuremicrophone on a pub floor in the seventies and a guitarist with attitude looked me right in the eye and in a voice not unlike that of Dirty Harry said, 'You-can-be-so-uncool!'
But I picked up that mike and it was unmarked, undamaged in any way, and we were ready, my friends, to rock.
The SM58 is such a microphone. It won't make you cool but if you drop it only the floor should suffer. And possibly the audience if it still works.
Mine was £69 from Dolphin Music and is available online. If you smashed up the lollipop end they can do a spare for a tenner. And I quote: 'Dents, lipstick, or worse? Your Shure SM48?s and 58?s can look clean and new.'

Advantages: Excellent Quality Disadvantages: Heavy so don't try throwing it into the audience
The Shure SM58 is one of the best made close vocal microphones in existence. It is quite heavy but very durable with a tungsten steel shaft coated in plastic to give it good grip.

The Shure is a dynamic omnidirectional microphone which only picks up your voice and not any background noise. It is well shielded so that it is a good choice for close vocals.
All in all a great piece of equipment. ...
Advantages: Good quality, no drivers, universal, long, durable. Disadvantages: Not great for sophisticated recording.
A very fine computer microphone that has lasted me seven years so far with no issues of compatibility, control, volume or quality. It is light, with a very sleek design.
The microphone stick itself can be detached from its base and used as a hand held device but whilst it can be entirely dismantled with ease (so that it is just a mic on the end of a wire,) the stick itself is solid and cannot be manipulated, so should the user wish to physically attach it to their computer, they would probably find it necessary to manoevre themselves so that they are speaking directly into it, as well as using the provided pad for doing so,. -- Due to its lack of malleability, and absence of an earphone, it is not possible to use this product as a headset.
For what it is, it is an outstandingly reliable and durable piece of equipment which is ...
