The Shure Model WH20TQG is a rugged, lightweight, dynamic headset microphone that provides high-quality voice pickup. It fits securely for active microphone users, such as aerobics instructors and musicians, with low visibility for stage appearances. The WH20TQG is suitable for any voice communications application where comfort and reliability are required. The WH20 TQG has a cardioid (unidirectional) pickup pattern. This provides greater gain-before-feedback and isolation from ambient noise and other unwanted sound sources, such as air-conditioning, musical instruments and loudspeakers. A carefully shaped frequency response includes a voice-frequency presence peak and a low-frequency rolloff to compensate for the proximity effect inherent in cardioid microphones during close-talk operation. An integrated elastic CROAKIES headband secures the headset comfortably. The headband, wireframe, and gooseneck are adjustable to accommodate any head size or shape. The WH20TQG is supplied with a foam windscreen and clothing clip. The Shure WH20TQG has a miniature four-pin female 4-pin mini connector for direct connection to Shure wireless body pack transmitters. Shure WH20TQG Features: Lightweight wireframe and headband adjust for a secure, comfortable fit Extra-strong, small-diameter attached microphone cable resists breakage Collapsible microphone boom for easy storage and transportation Smooth, natural frequency response comparable to high-quality dynamic hand-held vocal microphones High input clipping level eliminates overload distortion Reliable at temperature and humidity extremes Supplied foam windscreen and clothing clip Shure WH20TQG Specifications: Type: Dynamic, Close-Talking Frequency Response (at 8 mm): 50 to 15,000 Hz Polar Pattern: Cardioid (unidirectional) response, uniform with frequency, symmetrical about axis Impedance: Microphone rating impedance is 150 ohms (200 ohms actual) Output Lev
Advantages: Excellent Quality Disadvantages: Heavy so don't try throwing it into the audience
...The Shure SM58 is one of the best made close vocal microphones in existence. It is quite heavy but very durable with a tungsten steel shaft coated in plastic to give it good grip.
The Shure series of microphones have been going for years and are well know for their reliability. All the super groups have used them at some point. I still see people using cheap plastic rubbish. The Shure is a dynamic omnidirectional microphone which only picks up your voice and not any background noise. It is well shielded so that it is a good choice for close vocals.
All in all a great piece of equipment....

Advantages: Well worth price Disadvantages: cuts out low and high frequencies
...Aaah the Shure SM 58, where would music be without it. There wouldnt be one commercial band who didnt start off using this quality microphone. As this microphone is also very cheap it makes it even more of a worthwhile. On the other hand, one negative criticism i can pick out is that this microphone only picks up the mid ranges of the vocals, which in turn mean that people with very high or low voices arent the best people to use this as the timbre of the sound is at its best of quality.
Just some of the amazing features:
Frequeny response designed for vocal use
Uniform Cardioid pickup pattern isolates the main sound source
Shock-mount system cuts down handling noise
Effective, built-in spherical wind and pop filter
Great for any type of gig!...

Advantages: Robust Disadvantages: Does not give the user ability to sing
...I have been using the same SM58 for nearly 10 years (and even then it wasn't brand new) in that time it has been subjected to all manner of phlegm, drunken (and un-requested) guest vocalists, alcohol spills and cigarette smoke and it still works beautifully. THE mic of choice for live performances, it has a great sound and is very durable. Admittedly it now has a slightly duller sound than the SM58 recently purchased by the guitarist in the band. but until the day it is broken beyond repair or lost I will remain faithfull to it - and would rush straight out to buy a new one. Value for money, quality, reliability the Shure SM58 has all of these qualities in spades. A must have for any serious musician...

I bought these in June 2007 and was blown away by the quality. However make sure you use lossless audio codecs or CD's to get the best possible use out of these, as most lossy formats like MP3 which are encoded at less than 256Kbit rate wont sound... more
I was using Shure microphones in bands back in 1972 and they were noticeably tough and durable with their steel bodies. They had a great reputation even then although how good they sounded in the loud rock bands I was in is a matter best left to history. more
