Compact outside, smart inside, SS56G is designed on the high performance SiS 661FX chipset. The Auto Fan speed control makes the lowest noise. It supports platform longevity for the latest Intel Pentium 4 processor frequencies and delivers greater system bandwidth. With Intel Hyper-Threading Technology and a full-range of advanced features, the SS56G delivers a full-value, high-performance solution for today's most demanding tasks.
Advantages: small, cheap, fast Disadvantages: hard to work on, gets too hot, noisy
...look at what is available on the market, I have settled for the SS51G. It is not the newest Shuttle on the market but it is still well priced and fast. When Intel Northwood CPU prices started to come down in price, a very fast Intel processor in it with the fastest RAM was chosen. In the end my processor was £170 but this was nearly 18 months ago.
This is a great system for portability and economy! It is economical becuase of a large amount of components are onboard and so it also makes it a little easier in chosing the right parts. It is possible to buy a carry case for it and other bits for it. I have stuck only to the carry case so I am not able to comment on how well the other bits work with the SS51G
The Specs:
* CPU support: Socket 478-based Intel Pentium 4
* Form factor: Flex ATX
* Chipset: SiS 651/962L
* North bridge...

Advantages: small, impressive cooling system, no slowdown Disadvantages: only 1 hard drive, no on board vga
...called www.overclock.co.uk and saw a great deal that suited his needs. The man was looking at a computer, but it was no ordinary computer, it was not a laptop either it was a Shuttle Small Form Factor barebone personal computer.
Now I hear you cry "what is a shuttle?" well a shuttle is the name of a computer case that is 1 third of the size of a normal computer case. Computer cases are usually distinguised by type. The type of computer case you have is decided by the size of it and the size of it isn't usually in dimensions, it is often stated in terms like atx which is the average size of a computer case. The term atx is the size...

Advantages: small and lightweight and gives freedom over components Disadvantages: gets a little hot though better than previous models
...about the ShuttleSS51 which I got in the end of 2002. However, this computer suffered from a few problems: HEAT! The LAN chip under the processor melted 2 times and due to some lightning, I ended up upgrading to the SS56G version 3. I had new hopes that Shuttle has resolved some of the problems of the older mini computer models relating to too much heat.
The ShuttleSS56Gv3 is a bare bones computer. This means that its effectively the box, motherboard (main circuit board) and the cables and you need to supple the rest. The motherboard is a special size referred to as the Shuttle form factor, a proprietary design for this computer. The motherboard has networking, graphics, and sound all integrated into it so you do not need to guy a network, sound or graphics card if you do not wish to. This is good if you want to reduce your costs by not...
