Luthien, Pandora and a Bit of Siamese History

Advantages: their Siamese nature
Disadvantages: sometimes too smart for their own good

Siamese cats originate from Thailand (formerly Siam). They were so highly valued that only members of the royal family were allowed to keep them. Their original name - Royal points - refers to both their famous appearance and their distinguished environment.

The cats were also honoured as guardians of the temples. When a member of the royal family died, one cat was selected to receive the person's soul and intercede for it with its ...

The first Siamese cats registered in the UK were Pho and Mia, imported from Bangkok in 1884 by Owen Gould. Cat shows for this "new" cat breed first took place in 1885. Between then and the turn of the century many more cats were imported. The original English Siamese Cat Club was was also founded in this time.

Th first American club was founded in 1899, though the first Siamese cats probably arrives as early as ... more

Samantha

Advantages: Loveable companions
Disadvantages: Hard work

A Siamese has thin lines, striking colour contrast, fine carved aristocratic heads, striking blue almond eyes, and short soft coats make them living art. A Siamese cat is really something to behold. They are calm in temperament though sometimes they find their way to being viscious. The Siamese breed has been alive for many centuries. They make good household pets and are strong companions. ============================================================================ ...
...Samantha was an old fashioned Siamese cat and she was very loving without any visciousness within her. She would sit under my pram and guard me from stranger's. I would wrap her up in a blanket and pillow and read to her. She was the most loving cat that I've ever known apart from Cuddles my black cat. Samantha was a family cat in every way she'd sit on our knee's and pur whilst we were watching the television. She grew up with us and was a part ...

Siamese are a man's best friend!

Advantages: Full of character
Disadvantages: Not much peace

...that she had acquired two Siamese cats, but as I wasn't that into cats I wasn't particularly bothered. When I walked in my house I found these two "things" sitting in the hall which my mum claimed were her Siamese kittens, I personally though they were the most ugly little things I had seen in my life, with their pointy faces and ears, so big in proportion to their faces. I grinned and agreed that they were lovely. A few hours later, when I finally ...
...two little aliens... My Siamese cats are exactly like dogs, they run to greet you the minute you get home, they play fetch, please beware that they will want to chose their toys and tend to bring home various delights such as sponges from the garage or fat balls for birds. Charlie is particularly mischievous; to the dismay of my neighbours (and to our pocket) he regularly used to steal the foil tops of the milk and proceeded to drink the fresh ...

We are Siamese if weeeeeee pleeeeeze!!

Advantages: Loyal, Good Companions, intelligent
Disadvantages: Talk too much!!

...at all like I expected Siamese to be.................. A few days later we found out what he was really like. He was so intelligent, he would play football with Tin foil, I also had to get a lock for my fridge as he had learnt how to open it and get the cheese out. Well I had Benjy for 5 years until he eventually died. He got out the window and got shot at by an air rifle, by the time we got him back he had lead poisoning, he died in my arms 2 days ...
...one. All I wanted was Siamese to keep me company when he was working nights. One day I was looking at the internet at breeders and he was asking me questions about them. A few days later he took me out not telling me where we were going. We ended up in Redditch and went into a house and I was asked to choose a kitten, I chose a Blue point girl, she was my valentines day present. I called her Jasmine. She was so pretty. She was so good. Although talkative ...

Prepare to be smitten.

Advantages: Loving,loyal, highly intelligent, talkative.
Disadvantages: Can be naughty!

I fell in love with Siamese cats when I was young. My Nan had one, Kizzie, who was so loving and smart, I thought she was wonderful. We got Madi for our tenth wedding anniversary. We paid £175 for her but these days £300 is about average. She is an apricot point. There are lots of different coloured points Chocolate, Seal, Lilac, Red etc. This refers to the colour of the ears and tail mainly. True Siamese have beautiful blue eyes, if they have green ...
...talk or have the typical siamese yowl so if this is something your wanting be careful. When we got her we already had a big 9 year old tabby cat (moggy) but she settled in with him straight away. Five years on they still sleep cuddled up together even though they have hilarious "Whose the boss?" scraps daily. I would say it is essential to have a companion cat for a siamese unless you are in most of the time. For example when she was little, if ever ...

Hard to please siamese

Advantages: Loyal, Loving, stunning to look at, intellegent, the list goes on and on
Disadvantages: Sometimes TOO intellegent. Price can be quite steep

The siamese are quite like the oriental what with both their slender sleek body, actually looking quite brittel though this is definately not the cast. In actual fact before they were part of the cat fancy they were labour cats used for catching rats and mice keeping kings palaces clean in siam - Hence the name. Their eyes differ from many cats and quite different in this respect from the oriental. They have the most glowing bright sapphire blue ...
...I admire most about the siamese is their very creamy coat and of course the beautiful color points. they come in a verity of colors such as chocolate, seal - which is a more darker brown than the choc, blue and lilac - really a grey kind of color with the blue being more smokey than anything. There are 75 different colors and types of siamese ranging from the list mentioned above and also reds, apricots, caramels and creasm - These also branch out ...

SIAMESE FIGHTER'S FIGHT FOR BLOOD

Advantages: Fish love them so hardly any goes uneaten
Disadvantages: None

I use to be the Aquatic's Manager for a PETsMART store. We would test several different kinds of food made especially for Siamese Fighter Fish or beta's as more commonly known. Since betas are top water feeders, the bloodworms are perfect for them since they float. The fish fo crazy for the bloodworms the second they hit the water. Although, it really is not a good idea to feed only bloodworms since they do not have any nutrients in them. So I suggest also feeding another kind of top floating food to the betas. Bloodworms are a great treat for other fish also. I always have a container on hand for all my fish. And they are so cheap!!! You can find it in two different forms...cubes and loose. I like the loose kind for feeding the betas and the cubes for feeding all other fish. It is fun to watch the fish tear up a cube ...

Burmese cat / kitten

Advantages: Loving, dependable
Disadvantages: Initial cost - but see comments re rescue / rehome options

We have kept burmese for 16 years now and intend always to have a pair in the house. They are deeply affectionate and loving, especially with older people and children. They are also highly intelligent and have high emotional needs (NOT in the way of yowly siamese) so I would recommend they are kept in pairs as they value another burmese as company unless people are always around. The burmese cat club and burmese society have rescue and rehome pages if money is tight but these beasts are real value for money. Also register with local rescue centres for burmese cross kittens. One of our late burmese slept with my boy from when he started school and i credit him with said boys reading progresss as he used to lie in bed with cat purring on shoulder /pillow reading out loud to him "so he would have a story before bedtime too". These are ...

Loved by my cats - so loved by me!

Advantages: Nutritionally balanced and loved by my cats
Disadvantages: Not the cheapest brand - but worth the extra

Purina One Pet Food This is a complete, dried food for cats (they produce food for dogs too but I am reviewing the cat one), available in all good pet stores. You can usually get samples from the bigger pet stores too so that can be a great way to try this on your pet before buying. The prices vary but this pet food can often be found on offer. It is probably the favourite food of my 2 Siamese cats. They are a bit fussy, and can happily turn their nose up at certain foods. This one is always gratefully received, no matter what the flavour. They will gladly eat the same one until a large bag has run out and as it is nutritionally balanced to provide all that a healthy cats diet needs, I am happy to keep feeding them it. As with all dried foods, please ensure that your cat has an adequate supply of fresh water available at all ...
