Both parents and health profesionals sicken me to have put her through it especialy surgery without asking her if she wanted it or not.Glad at the end she when behind her mother back and got all the evidence to get he jailed for life saving so many childrens lifes in the process.My own experience of child abuse is very different and had a ucky escape thanks to my step mother.She took me away from parental neglect,sexual abuse for real mother ... more

Advantages: raising awareness of Muenchausen by Proxy Disadvantages: upsetting at times
The author of this book discribes her childhood, growing up mostly in a trailer with her brother, her father and her mother, who was a victim of sexual abuse.
Mostly her story is about how her mother makes her ill or makes her fake symptoms or play them up, which partly makes the victim an accomplish, to some extend. But the child is of course only guilty of trying to please her mother.
It also shows the shocking truth of how honest Doctors can ... ...by a mother who claims her child is very ill, putting the medical professionals under pressure to find a cure.
The measure a person with Muechausen by proxy will take to get the attention they crave is shocking.
Hopefully stories like this, openly told, will help to reduce the number of cases of this sort of childabuse. ...

Advantages: Based on a true story, original, eye-opening Disadvantages: shocking (can be a good thing too)
The true story of the life of a child living with a mentally ill mother. Munchausen by proxy is a condition by which another person believes their child (in this case) is chronically ill, and may often make the child ill themselves in order to treat them. A little known condition that is extremely dangerous and frightening.
Julie Gregory writes the story now as an adult having survived her mothers plight. Having been made sick or believed to be ... ...the difference. The story takes us from her first visits to the doctor to her mother insisting on open heart surgery on her healthy daughter.
With such an obscure condition a frightening fact brought to the surface by the book is that no doctors or social workers ever suspected any foul play, even disbelieving any argument against the mothers best intentions of care.
This book brings to light a fascinating condition and the poignant story of one ...

I read this book with no knowledge of Munchausen by Proxy - a disease which causes a person to deliberately make another ill or sick or ensures the other person believes they are ill. A disease which is the main focus in this book.
