Civ IV Complete: The Whole World in Your Hands

Advantages: Excellent gameplay; endless replayability; bargain price
Disadvantages: Difficult for beginners; not great in multiplayer

The Civilization franchise of computer games has come a long way since the original incarnation was released way back in 1991. That?s where my Civ-addiction started, and since then I?ve worked my way through Civilization II, Civilization: Call to Power, Sid Meier?s Alpha Centauri, Civilization III, and finally Civilization IV. The latter, in the ?complete? form, is the latest in the series, with the exceptions of Civilization IV: Colonization, an update of another Sid Meier classic that uses the Civ IV game engine, and Civilization: Revolution, which is an adaptation for various games consoles. Another Sid Meier Classic

Advantages: Good playability, Historical details
Disadvantages: Very dated graphics

Colonization is another game written by the undisputed king of the turn based strategy game genre. Following the same sort of line as the Civilisation series, Sid Meier takes us on a historical trip to the year 1492, and the colonization of the America's. Being an old game now, the system requirements of this game are very low. In fact this should run quite smoothly on anything over 100MHz. 16MB RAM is also plenty, and hard drive space required is very minimal by todays standards. No 3D cards or anything like that is required either. Installation is straight forward and you just follow the onscreen instructions, and it will install very easily indeed. Sid Meiers Railroads

Advantages: Straight forward control scheme
Disadvantages: Difficult to get the hang of

General outline: Sid Meiers Railroads is a strategy game in which you build tracks between towns and cities to transport various goods and passengers between locations to make money. Each town or city has varying inputs and outputs, for instance, one city may demand wine, however, the wine isn't directly available to transport - instead you must find a vineyard in which grapes can be acquired and then transport them to a settlement that as the ability to convert the raw material into a product, only then, can you finally supply the product to the city. This process applies for all resources in the game: each can be converted into a more advanced resource which will allow you to make more money when supplied to cities that have that particular demand.
