I was always a rather big Nokia phone, but everyone i seemed to have was cursed and all my nokia's i have ever had had drowned. So when my 8310 packed in, my dad gave me an MT50 which lasted ages, but then my brother now has that one and i've now got the A55 which my mother received free from an avon promotion. I just thought it would be cheap phone that didnt last long than 5 minutes, but here i am after 6 months and still no problems. Charge it up over night, and it will last for days that consist of constent texting. The only problem is that the buttons makes this horrible clinky noise that drives my parents and myself insane. the plastic buttons fit in a certain way to the front of the phone so you cant help the clicking. My MT50 had rubber buttons, so you got no sound for them what so ever.
So ok many people might look at this phone and think, well its got no camera no special features, whats so good about! well for starters it only saves 20 text messages on your phone. ok, i can hear the people at the back saying nokia's hold a lot more, but have you ever noticed with a nokia that the more text messages stored the slower it gets! and whats the point in having a slow phon,e we all prefer speed when it comes down to technology. The ringtones are basic but thats how i like it, i'd rather had a very subtle tone than be sitting on a bus for my phone to ring on the highest volume with the crappiest version of the song at the top of the charts, thats just not me! I like things that are basic, but things that also do what they're meant to do and last for however long is needed. The phone has its own alarm clock which does actually wake me up so it is good use, although i do tend to turn it off and go back to sleep but thats by and by. You can also set which ringtone you'd like to wake you up. It also has, WAP, a selection of 4 games (stack attack, balloon shooter, move the box and wacko) which are all basic but serve a job when rather bored or waiting for someone, contains little cartoon animations and pictures which can be used for your background or screensaver. Also has its own calculator which is very simple to use and its own currency convertor which i still dont know how to work, so i just tend to avoid it. It has around 30 ringtones, nothing special, but i dont mind, i just have mine set as a little beep or have the silent alert (vibrating setting!) turned on. You can customise your profiles too for different settings or different moods. Has a bright orange background light which is very handy when trying to walk up stairs in darkness. All in all, this is not the phone i expected and i hope i get much longer out of it than i already have.
Also i nearly forgot to mention, this phone is very light, and when its in your pocket, you tend to forget that its there! I have dropped this phone or knocked it off sofa's or desks countless number of times and it still works as well as the day i bought it, i just havent tested it with water, and dont intend to either.

Good review. This model isnt the most basic phone Siemens make (I think its the A25) and I nearly went for it but missed my Nokia so much that I went for that instead. I do like Siemens phones though - the quality is better than Nokia in some ways. Good luck with your freebie. Nar
Advantages: Easy to use; Light; Small; Quick loading times; Performs the basic well and efficiently; Durable Disadvantages: Old; Does not have an in-built camera

Review of Siemens A55
Advantages: Can be bumped, dropped, scratched, chipped, moaned at and run non-stop... Disadvantages: A little boring perhaps with its dreary display, but who needs colour really?
